Holy shit, I totally should once I have a working computer again. Hopefully there's a copy floating around on the Intertubes somewhere. Might be interesting to check out those three documentaries mentioned as well. Maybe pair it off with Joint Security Area, a South Korean thriller about a murder on the DMZ (which reunites Song Kang-ho and Lee Byung-hun from The Good, The Bad and The Weird as North Korean and South Korean officers, respectively).

Anyway, it's a risk. A spy could disguise a shotgun as a BB gun, right? You can't be implying North Korea has terrible security procedures. That's a bad image.

A squirrel and a hedgehog.

What starts off as a metaphor for independent military strength away from PRC made in the 50's turns into a new North Korea Disney clone made in the 90's for children that basically says America will kill all your loved ones and cherish your leader above all.

Hilariously later on the American animal analogues become increasingly more badass when viewed from a Western perspective so alien from a NK audience's values.

I was almost going to mention that cartoon series.

The story is about a squirrel intelligence agent from Flower Hill (North Korea), named Geumsaegi, trying to sabotage the plans of evil Weasels (Japanese), and later Wolves (Americans) to invade Flower Hill. However, the antagonists are not a unified force - there's a fierce struggle for power between the various commanders (mostly the Weasels). The main hero spends most of the time in the story taking part in the power struggle (as an aide of the purple furcoat-wearing Weasel supreme commander) and occasionally derailing the villains' attempts to invade Flower Hill.
 
After defeating the renegade generals, the Weasel supreme commander tries to invade Flower Hill with his robot army, housed on the naval submarine carrier/robot factory/command center/whatever "Iron Shark", but it gets destroyed. After that, the Weasels try to destroy Flower Hill with ICBMs armed with chemical weapons. Geumsaegi, along with a small Flower Hill military squad attacks the main launch facility. In the final showdown, the Weasel supreme commander is killed, and Weasel invasion force is wiped out by their own redirected ICBMs. After that, the Wolves appear. They kidnap a major Flower Hill geologist (named Dr. Mole) in an attempt to discover the locations of Flower Hill subterranean military installations. In the latest episodes, Geumsaegi (now an Weasel Army envoy) tries to rescue him, while also trying to prevent his evil counterpart, Rat (South Korean) intelligence agent Mulmangcho, from blowing his cover.

Dogs have appeared once in a short rally scene in episode 10 among the crowd of animals from friendly countries neighbouring Flower Hill. They don't seem to be British.

Dammit, North Korea, keep your sterotypes straight!

The only people who are nearby you and don't hate your guts are the Chinese! And even then they just tolerate you until you prove yourself too difficult to manage. Dogs totally fit the British from a North Korean perspective. They're basically the same as wolves, except cowardly and will follow the wolves to the ends of the Earth just to not speak up for itself. See? Negative sterotype with correct animals for it.

The species of the bad guys:

• There are Japanese weasels, American wolves, and South Korean rats.
• The weasel army used to have crow soldiers.
• One of the officers on the Wolf commander's ornithopther in episode 27 was a crocodile.
• The Wolf Commander's assistant is a fox.

The species of the good guys:

• Squirrels.
• Hedgehogs.
• Ducks.
• Dogs, pigs, chipmunks, hares, moles etc. as civilians.

The species of the good guys don't seem to allude to any country or nationality besides North Korean. The bear in episode 1 is an exception (Soviet/Chinese?).
