Alerts Question
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:53:13 pm »

Hey guys. I'm trying to get alerts to work so that a squad of marksdwarfs will go to a burrow.

I know I can schedule them to be there on a monthly basis, but I'd like to be able to just have them station there or patrol a route by going s-t and selecting it.

It seems like when I put them on the alert, they're no longer active, and if I set them to active, ordering them to the burrow prevents this from working.

Any ideas?

It should be possible, notice that the military keeps a separate schedule for each alert state.  When you first go to the Schedule menu by default you are editing the "Active/training" alert, but if you press... something .... maybe plus/minus? from the schedule menu it will take you to the calendar for other alert states.

The default schedule is just a starting point, and no good for real battle. It's really just a training schedule, I leave it that way except for some fine tuning.
For siege positions, you'll need some burrows and a new schedule.  for example...Schedule "Siege"...burrow "North tower"...assign "Crackarchers"...minimum "3".  Now if a siege comes, just change the alert to Siege and the Crackarchers will pick-up equipment, fill waterskin, get provisions, nap, and chat with the broker who's on break head straight for the North tower.

Awesome, thanks guys. This opens up so many options beyond just splitting them between training and one burrow.
