Actions for the 80-15-5 Republic

Try to negotiate with the Panama Canal Corporation. Accept the first reasonable offer and then deploy ships and bomber drones against the pirates at once. We would be willing to accept some combination of the following as payment:

-Intel and Tips on military units and supplies being moved through the canal
-Help from Panama Canal Corporation engineers upgrading our utilities
-Help from PCC engineers and corporate officers in establishing and running new a new business or engineering college
-A period of free canal use

Re-Attempt the joint research project with the Sky Lords

Focus on improving infrastructure and utilities to the Refugees, perhaps with the help of the Canal Company. Allow green recruits in our military to train by patrolling the new slum neighborhoods.

Build Nationalized Casinos in the Slums to try and raise some funds off the newcomers.

Make all new citizens take basic aptitude tests, and funnel the clever ones into our college system.

Apply the water purification system invented by the republic to our water systems.

Continue to Broadcast Advertisements for Mercenary work.

If it was part of our agreed payment, establish new engineering or business schools with the help of the Panama Canal Company and using some of their personnel/retirees as instructors.

Yearly Report: 2022

World events:
-Temperatures are unusually low, and frequent snow storms torment the lands. These mainly cause problem for Northern, (And southern, on the other hemisphere) countries.
-The refugee problem is slowly coming to an end.

Spoiler: The Sky Lords (click to show/hide)

You make some basic improvements on infrastructure, but beyond repairing old systems, nothing important happens. Inquire into possible future problems reveals several things. For one, radioactive particles could contaminate the sea, and hence the fish. Agriculture is also threatened, if not by radioactivity, then by increased salt levels in the sea. Furthermore there are a few structural problems that could do with improving, especially on the topic of power security. The majority of the power is spacegenerated, and recieved by a single 10 km attena near Stratford, an incident with that structure could result in the loss of up to 90% of the power production.

A second group of scientists is send, and this time the journey happens without incidents, they'll be setting up now, and start work next turn. The scientists at home continue to mess with stuff, but their research is undirected and has no pratical consequences.

You also recieve some messages from the New orde, and as sattelite views indicate that they're testing a heavy duty launch rocket, and might soon bring their own spacestation into orbit, it might be good to talk to them.

Spoiler: The New Order (click to show/hide)

The Cereberus is completed on shedual. Decreasing the cost and the failure rate are however conflicting goals, and no major progress is made. Longevity is however increased tremendously, with the addition of the ability to refuel and maintainance the engine mid flight. Restarting is fuel inefficient, but it works. One question arrives however, what to do with the engines after they've served their purpose. For now, they're just stored on the station, but they can't remain there forever, and they won't survive reentry. For now, that is no problem. A long term habitation module is created, which relies on spinning to create artificial gravity. Nevertheless, it won't be enough to completely cancel out the effects of space on the human body.

Attempts are made to increase mining efforts, but not much results are made as a result of bogged down or even snow covered infrastructure. This also delays the construction of the orbital space station, which is currently stored in pieces in hangars till the last parts arrive and weather clears.
And last but not least is the improvement of aerial weaponry, which due to the broadness of the subject and the focus on other tasks only makes neglible progress.

Spoiler: The 80-15-5 Republic (click to show/hide)

While PCC can't currently miss any of it's engineers, they are interest by the option of building shooling in the near future. However, for now they would settle for free canal use for your military ships, and a 20% price cut for commercial shipping. Adding to that they'd gladly help support the small military base you'd need to keep the pirates under control. After all, if you just shoot them, they're back in a week time.

The joint project makes little progress, though will be able to start of next year in earnest.

While work to expand utilities  and infrastructure progresses, the situation in some neighbourhoods worsens so dramatically that at point even the soldiers don't dare to enter certain areas.
Crime increases rapidly in the areas of these rotten spots, and they slowly expand. The Nationalize Casino's help a little, but are having severe problems with the rapidly selforganising crime that's starting to develop. Those who manage to pass the tests rapidly flee the slum neigbourhoods, integrating themselves without much problems.

At least the water problem is solved for now, thanks to the Republic gratious assistance. Still, the water situation is troubling, and the reserves won't last multiple consecutive droughts.

Nobody responds to the broadcast.

Spoiler: NEAR (click to show/hide)

Nothing

Spoiler: Eirectic (click to show/hide)

Aerial drones are brought into position, but are unable to deploy their payloads. The Icelandic geothermal power is rather important, and as such is quite heavily defended. All your bombing drones were politely intercepted by European forces, and forced to return.

Decontamination of London progresses slowly. Most of the rubble of the inner city is still slightly radioactive, which interferes with nanite and machine operation, meaning that humans need to clear the debris manually.

Project Nova on the other hand is rather succesfull. Large swaths of otherwise useless ground are converted to wind power installations, and free childcare and increased social welfare are rather popular.

While human cloning is still way off, both due to technical but also ethical problems, genetic engineering makes significant strides forward. Retroviral genetical therapy proves usefull against a number of diseases, significantly increasing lifespan.

Spoiler: Mongolian Empire (click to show/hide)

With the message sent, the Khan sent a message to research facilities to produce a missile sheild utilizing laser technology (highest priority), along with ordering work to be done to continue work upon the Mongolian Space Program (low priority).

[Further actions to come once I know the response to message to Dominion and China]

[/spoiler]

The Chinese state that they will agree to a limited version of this map, in which a demilitarized zone of at least 60km covers the borders. Some of the minor kingdom's don't agree, and the internal situation appears to be rather unstable.

Work on the missile shiled progresses slowly. The problem with the system is that the lasers are highly inefficient against projectiles that have already cut out their boosting stage, and have continuus overheating problems.

Spoiler: USSA (click to show/hide)

Work on the new vehicles goes rapidly. Project 211, essentially a heavily modernized and improved version of the classic C-130, is especially succesfull. It's first used in the political assimilation of the areas surrounding the USSA. This is highly succesfull, though the resulting territorial and population increase might prove to be a 2 edged sozrd fro the country. Work on armoured radiation suits progresses, but is halted because of their extremely high weight, which makes using them practically impossible.

On the other side, work on the Petrochemical plant progresses rapidly ,and industrial efficiency soars;

Heavy storms prevent the Navy from mobilizing, though the subs do set course to easter Russia. They find little of interest. Just ice, and more ice.

Switching the filtration system to air and land proves to be problematic. Anti radiation air filters are easy to make, but very inefficient. Designing a system to ground airborne particles would be counterproductive, as filtering radiation from land is even harder than sea.

The large scale seabed cleaning program is mostly succesfull. Coastal waters are rapidly cleared, but the dredgers can't acces the deeper parts of the sea. You could drop the particles there to, but then the radiation would just build up on the seabed. There's also the question about what to do with the radioactive particles. Currently they've been filtered and are stored in some nuclear infrastructure, but they need to move when the plants become operationall.

Refugee communities are slowly being improved, thought the situation takes it time to stabilize. Some have doubts about the wisdom using small reactors to power the communities, but doing it that way eliminates the need for expensive power lines, and allows one to reuse the steam for civilian heating.

As mentioned before, the Dominion trade deal goes well.

Spoiler: Australian Dominion (click to show/hide)

Work on the fleet starts, though submersibility and stealth prove to be things that don't go well with a decent speed or cargo capacity. The sheer energy required to propulse ship's of that size underwater is problematic. Some possibile solutions the engineers have come up with are the usage of diving systems only when the ship is unloaded, with foldable cargo rooms being used to reduce ship size dramatically or severly reducing the ship's underwater speed. Yet others propose a modular design, which would allow the crew part to move away underwater, while cargo parts wait on the seabed till all's safe.

A few highmass sattelites are launched, but the shuttles low payload capacity proves hampering for the design. As such, they use rather low weights, which reduces their power, as well as being boosted only to LEO, rather than GEO, meaning that not every continent is in range at any given moment.

The increase in Dominion military progresses, but slowly. VTOL aircraft and gunships are prototyped, and a number of models are ready for final production.

Furthermore, the Dominion continues to invest heavily into the economy, automating several older mines, as well as the to be build new ones. New, high tech reactors are constructed when the need arises, and are then connected with the mines. Due to the terrains drough nature, allmost all of these are situated near the coasts.

Work on robotics technology progresses rapidly, though the scientists are confused by one of their mission statements. As such, they come up with a variety of undercoverdesigns, including small spy robots as well as infiltration exoskeletons. The Theorethical teams note that energy weaponry could use, but is caracterized by being inefficient in any kind of atmosphere, as well as having subpar results vs any organical targets. Cold fusion is dismissed as a 20the century hoax, alloys certainly could be created, and FTL might prove viable, but the research in these and other basic universal laws usually requires gigantic research facilities.

As the outside threat lowers, the Dominion focusses more on the needs of it's citizens. The Compact cities are improved with pedestrian walkways between skyscrapers, vertical and skyscraper gardens, and other generally nice things.

[Note: Map's and such are still not updated. I did however decide to add some stats to your profiles. Examples are:
   -Infrastructure
   -Economical efficiency
   -Research efficiency
-Converted Education to a number stat. (makes it easier to compare)

Do note that these are not capped at 1. 1 is just the best modern day equivalent.

This is not enough progress. If we do not send our station into orbit, it may no longer be safe! Ramp up production, get the system online. Build a guidance system. It needs weapons control, and it needs to navigate through space. Finally, we must have a proper weapon, to keep our ships safe. What is space? Is it safe? No! If you go floating in space, you are dead! Create a missile system, codename Valkyrie. Launch small missiles, carrying a small amount of navigation fuel. Launch using larger booster, like an aircraft carrier kickplate. Kickplates are  a safety feature. Missile moves quickly, uses navigation fuel to stay on target. Armor piercing tip hits rocket, burrows into hull. Tip drills into hull, then opens. Use hydraulics. Acts like Jaws of Life, those are safe. Opens hole in ship hull, depressurizes compartment. Enemy is exposed to space. Space is not safe. Minimum damage caused, easy to salvage.
Ramp up production on construction facility. Create computer guidance system. System must be able to navigate ship, as well as utilize missile systems. Create Valkyrie missile launcher. Valkyrie lances are launched with a small reserve of fuel for navigation. Missiles are launched using a system like a kickplate, with most of the fuel coming from the main ship. Missiles are designed to pierce their target, then drill into the hull. Finally, the tip splits using hydraulic systems, ripping a hole in the ship and depressurizing it.

(I should start a counter of how many times I say safe)

Message to The New Order:

Greetings to this new nation reaching for the stars! This is the Sky Lords. We are interested in peaceable relations with you and your people. May the spice and trade flow between our nations. However, if you intend to use space for war...keep in mind that our words are backed by nuclear weapons. May it never come to that. Space is big, really big, so there's sufficient room for all of us. Please respond as soon as is convenient.

Dear Sky Lords,
It is an integral part of the Great Plan that begs us to master space, and so we shall focus on it. We are happy to share space with you, providing you do not observe too closely our work on the Exodus and compromise our plans. We would be happy to work with your nation on the conquering of space, providing you can guarentee the safety and confidentiality of your scientists. We would also like to remind you that we have nuclear weapons as well, and will not hesitate to destroy this entire planet if it is needed to preserve the safety of the Exodus.

Dear New Order,

We are glad you are willing to be peaceful. However, we must ask clarification on some things.
What is this "Exodus" you speak of? Do you intend to flee Earth for good?
What do you mean by "guarantee the safety and confidentiality of our scientists"?
Finally, your goal is to "conquer space," is it not? What do you mean by this?

Dear Sky Lords,
We are afraid we cannot answer most of what you ask, as it may compromise the Great Plan. However, we can say that our goal is not specifically to conquer space. In addition, guarenteeing the safety and confidentiality of your scientists would require making sure there is no risk of their compromising the Great Plan. This may regrettably hinder our collaboration, but the Great Plan must be preserved.

Dear New Order,

I imagine that you understand the price of your secrecy. Not only are we uncertain as to if we can trust you, we can't even promise to keep your Great Plan secret as we have not the slightest idea what it could be! At least give us some hint as to the Plan so we know what we aren't allowed to know.

Dear Sky Lords,
The Great Plan is a way for us to pursue ultimate safety. We will let you know if we require action from you to maintain the Great Plan. You can be assured, however, that it will not require aggressive action on our part. Any weapons we have are for the purpose of defense. Eventually, the Exodus shall commence, and we will disappear, for maximum safety. We must not allow anyone to have information that may lead to our rediscovery once this happens.

Dear Sky Lords,
We request to collaborate in testing of spacecraft cloaking fields. This has benefit to us for the purpose of the Great Plan, and may also be used for widespread purposes to you, from gathering information to concealing missiles. Thus, we believe it is to both our benefits to work together on this, as your knowledge of our cloaking techniques does not pose a significant threat to the Great Plan.
