New Zealand is wonderful, but they aren't free from corruption. Much better than the US, in my experience.

I will second the whole "US is extremely corrupt and pretty unfree, but it depends a lot on where you live" thing as well. There's a reason I'm moving out to Washington. I come from a state that has been pretty publicly been run by criminals and it's a not-so-well-kept secret that they still run control significant chunks of the government (Hello, Rhode Island, nice to meet you!)

And misko, I honestly don't see how openly flaunting your corruption is an improvement. It's just a condemnation of the populace, imo.

As someone who has lived both in the USA and New Zealand, NZ is most definitely a vast improvement. USA is seriously fucked up (though, like in most fucked up countries, you can do fine if you avoid crossing the wrong people, or getting unlucky)

I don't plan on moving away anytime soon.

To be fair that is probably true of 99.9% of people...
Considering the utter economic ruination that is visiting Europe that's likely not true.
I thought Europe on the whole was typically doing better than the US in terms of economics? Or was I misinformed? It seems to change every time I hear about it. Wouldn't really surprise me either way.

My brother in Japan was told by his work that Europe was in ruins, that there wasn't no more energy, and that they let the corpses on the streets  :P

Belgium's a fairly nice place sometimes.

We'll politely ignore that dude that got brutally murdered in his police cell recently...

If anything, dont ever go to Poland, the government rapes their citizens wallets hard. So hard its just ridiculous. And the roads suck.
Jobs suck. Unemployment sucks. The standard monthly wage sucks. Everything sucks there. Oh well at least there are lots of hot girls.
But nevermind that.

I live in Canada and it's pretty nice. If our constitution was more similar to the United State's I'd be happier, but generally everything is pretty good.

Might have agreed with you 10 years ago, but lately...

The Netherlands is (are?) fairly nice. We got a lot of right wing populism and neoliberalism lately, but it's still better than most places. I wouldn't ever want to live in a place where I'd want to own a gun to feel safe from my fellow citizens / police officers. I don't care if that country is called America, India, or Iran.

We'll probably be building cities on floating pontoons by the end of the century.

What did I say earlier?
Frankly, it depends on what you value the most. In the US, we have alot of shit, but no one will ever ban your porn or newspaper. In Scandinavia, they are certainly quite progressive on most fronts, but it's not like they don't have a toll for it. In conclusion, I'd have to say Atlantis. They got their shit together. Sure, they don't admit they exist to us publicaly, but they sure don't hide info from their citizens.
EXACTLY. Score one for atlantis.
