Based on previous releases, April is very unlikely. It's normally a few months at least from when Toady goes from "adding new features" mode to "fixing bugs and making the new stuff play nicely together" mode, and that's not happened yet. To be honest I find new releases a bit underwhelming, at least the x.01 version, because there are inevitably a ton of new bugs (hello, farming in soil doesn't work bug!) and all the utilities and mods break.

At least the existing version has plenty to be excited about too

It used to be a bug. Fixed now, but that still proves his point - new releases bring new bugs.

Realistically? Probably June-July at the soonest. Here's to hoping for a late April release though!

Can someone who has read all the changelogs post what are the best new features? I read a lot of them and all I can see is that there will be fruit, bigger trees and a jumping and grabbing ledges feature. I hope i just missed the memo or this release will be very underwhelming imo.

The world is being activated; some worldgen activities will continue during play. Combat is undergoing a complete speed split from movement, making it so that faster creatures are no longer ridiculously powerful in combat.

The cities will come alive, you will see bandits using the new non-lethal combat system to mug pedestrians. You will be able to murder someone, and not have everyone in that civilization instantly banzai charge you.

Doing multiple attacks at the same time, such as a running jumping kick to the upper body with both feet, or chopping both someones arms off within a single "turn" by having swords in both hands.
