Having started watching TNG on Netflix recently myself, I came to the same conclusion.  They were still really feeling it out in the first season I guess, which led to a lot of odd stories.  Also, a bit too much Wesley.  And beardless Riker.

I've never watched any of the original series, but I've heard that it was largely "monster of the week" type stuff, so were they just trying to follow the original series formula early on?

It followed the same formula in that it was largely standalone episodes and not much story arc. TOS had more fistfights though, and no holodecks.

I have. I thought it was a pretty good movie, but that's only with seeing bits of the programmes and none of the other movies. At parts I though Benedict Cumberbatch played his character too much like Sherlock, but it ended up fitting very well.

Seen it.

Plot was meh and the movie itself was meh too, but actors did very nice work on their characters, so I guess all in all it was 'OK' :P

Um. I don't think so.

Though it did give Data a pretty damn awesome line:

Data: "You are capable of great sadism and cruelty. Interesting. No redeeming qualities."
Armus: "So, what do you think?"
Data: "I think you should be destroyed."

After watching the first movie and seeing Spock kissing Ahura... (and two other scenes)

I just don't want to see Into Darkness. Sometimes about the series just doesn't sit right with me, it is like its littlest mistakes are somehow huge.
