Comic Style or Realism. Mind the the more detailed, realistic 64x tiles look strange when viewed in normal play at 16x

Obviously I havent done anything on this in a long time. The biggest issue with 64x is, that you can barely recognize the things when you zoom out and have them in 16x. So you really need a full-hd screen or better. I am not even sure if it would work in windowed mode over 2 screens...

I think using 48x is much better. There are also so much more sprites you find online, for example all animals ever are in farmville, which uses 50x (but has a frame, so 48x fits perfectly).

The thing I noticed is that truetype displays better when using a large tileset.  Anything 24px & up is great.

Hmmm, so I guess I will decide between 32x and 48x. I've seen more sprites online for 32x, although I haven't looked at games like farmville or anything. I wonder how wrong it would be to steal some sprites from old video games... I really should just be working on the content of my mod, but I got hooked on these graphics.

Its wrong, but DF mods are so far under the radar that no ones cared (so far). I guess if you take things from Ultima, no one will ever care, while Blizzard says its ok, and Zynga would go haywire. I have tons of 64x and 128x64 creature sprites from an artist for Nethack, he allowed me to use them...

Every time I look at 64x creature sprites I really want to use them because they look so much better, but then I remember that you usually play all zoomed out anyway so it doesn't really matter. Wish I had some artistic skill and could make some myself, but everytime I try to even just mod other graphics it ends up looking like a baby fingerpainting.

The abritary 80 tile min is the problem. ^^
