RPS has their verdict.

Highlights:

-The story is balls.
-The environments are lovingly crafted and large.
-Exploration is there.
-Context-sensitive movement sucks and is possibly the weakest part of the game.
-Lots of side missions and challenges.
-Lots of UI and gameplay features can be toggled off, including Focus.
-Following that, you can basically create custom difficulty modes by not only turning off UI and gameplay elements, but setting fail states as well. So "game over on taking damage" "delete my save on taking damage" and all sorts of other kind of insane hardcore challenges.
-Generally, it feels good to play.

The way the article is written implies that its default state is easy mode. So if you are a long-time Thief fan and pick it up, it's probably worth it to start at a higher level of difficulty.

I can't say I'm rushing out to buy it, but I may pick it up when on sale.

He's implying that it's without a shadow of a doubt complete shit and the title should be changed to reflect that.

From a number of reviews around the web, it seems that the amazingly dark 'Thief' series has been dumbed down for the COD generation.

RIP Thief. Another casualty of the industry catering to the brain dead.

At least we still have Dishonored!
... Right?
Right guys?
They're not making a sequel to Dishonored, right...?

From a story sense, don't think there'd be a real reason other than in name only.

I myself need to look into the Thief games anyway :P

If this turned out bad there's always the dark mod on the doom 3 engine. That turned standalone recentish.

I've only ran into one review so far on Ars Technica, they were pretty negative about it, though mostly it sounded like the stealth elements were completely unchanged and unimproved from the originals. And that the new features like garrets ability to run and parkour and the story are absolute shit and break the game. Especially since you can just sprint through a level if you wanted to apparently.

Plus linear level design.

It's safe to say, I will wait on a deep discount for this. That's really the question these days isn't it? Whether it's good enough to play now, or bad enough to wait until the dollar price won't leave a body totally disappointed, and maybe even surprised? I waited until Dishonored was well on sale and I'm glad, but as decent of a game as it is I would have been pissed if I'd paid full price for it.

Generally though, the title is an attempt to give the game whatever due it deserves. Which it sounds like there's something based on the reviews i've read.

Anyone here actually play this yet? I'm curious as to hear a non-reviewers opinion, as even the reviewers seem divided.
