In space. On earth, they have to build up excess muscle before they go into space.

Again, referring to them as "astronauts" implies that they have been in space relatively recently.

Their.

And most astronauts don't just sit around and reminisce about space when they're earthside, you know.

That was a dumb typo that was very unbecoming of me.

I know that, and I don't see how that's relevant.

It's relevant, because when they're doing other stuff, would they be identified as astronauts?

If an engineer happens to go into space some, would he be an astronaut or an engineer?

An astronaut. Going to space is not the only thing that makes you an astronaut. If space travel is your profession, you're an astronaut.

That's my point--astronauts aren't just astronauts. If someone has two professions, you typically refer to them by whichever is more relevant at this time. If one is astronaut, that's typically not the case unless the astronaut has been to space recently.

I wouldn't even say that's true. If that engineer had EVER been too space, I'd call him an astronaut, particularly because he was paid to be there.

So if someone goes to space once, they're an astronaut for life?

Throw out all the predictions, because suddenly the definition of "astronaut" has exploded into a massively larger possibility field.

As part of their profession, if they did I would not hold it against them to consider themselves astronauts.

Most of the "astronauts" we know only went into space one to three times.

If we count anyone who has ever been to space as an astronaut, the astronaut could be just about anyone from an old man to Howard Wollowitz.

So we may well consider it "Statistically average modern man" to "Statistically average caveman"

In that case, the caveman probably has the advantage.

Men in modern First World countries are often out of shape.
Men in modern Third World countries are often malnourished.

Cavemen would need to be in shape or they wouldn't be alive, but there were few enough of them that malnourishment was not a common condition. (I'm not saying it didn't happen, I'm saying that it more rarely happened, and that anyone it happened to didn't have too long to affect average.)

Just get a man from a modern second world country. Problem solved.
