Name nation:
Konföderation Schweizer (KS for short or Swiss Confederacy)
Governmental system: Confederation
Location and size: Switzerland (durr). Size (compared to what?): Err, somewhat larger than modern Switzerland due to acquisition of some agricultural areas of Germany and Italy, as well as more of the Alps.
Population: 8 million
Description of the land: Aside from the smoking craters that now are Geneva, Zurich and Bern, very beautiful alpine country, with many pristine lakes.
Economy:
-Primary imports: Fuel and metal ores.
-Primary exports: machinery, chemicals, metals, agricultural products
-Most important products: Arms and Machinery
-Natural resources: There are small iron and manganese deposits in the Jura but no known deposits of coal. A variety of materials is worthy of commercial exploitation. Among them are lime, salt, sand, gravel, clay, and marble. Abundant Hydropower
-Distribution of: Large manufacturing sector, obviously large financial sector which is significantly less relevant, small but extant agricultural sector. Highly skilled workforce. Primary or Agricultural sector (3.8% of the population) while a larger minority is involved in the Secondary or Manufacturing sector (23% in 2006). The majority of the working population are involved in the Tertiary or Services sector of the economy (73.2%), though obviously due to the destruction of the cities, this ratio has shifted towards the first two by around 5% and 30% respectively. The manufacturing sector was built up greater than it was before the nuclear weapons.
People:
-General voter: 20-40, white, middle class and extremely conservative; both due to the turn of events and the liberals in Switzerland didn't live in the rural areas or smaller cities that often, so they took the worst when the nukes exploded.
-Life expectancy: Well it WAS 82.2 years, who knows now... Ballpark around 75
-Average age= 33, on account of many elderly killed by nuclear weapons and generally unable to handle the situation as well as the actions the government took in 2014 to encourage births among the populace.
-Education: Highly skilled and well-educated.
-HDI: .880
Science and technology:
-Primary focus: Air supremacy
-Major accomplishments: Skyshield missile defense system, enhanced stealth technology able to counteract infrared as well as radio. LHSD (Luft
hoheit Stealth-Detektor) for enhanced stealth countermeasures. But most important of all is the
Licht Falken, of which there are only 4 piloted by only the best pilots; it is a hypersonic stealth aircraft which "skips" in and out of the atmosphere to avoid overheating. It is the cornerstone of the "preemptive air superiority" wing, tasked with destroying the enemy air force while still on the ground. A flight from Chicago to Tokyo would take only 72 minutes. In air to air combat, it simply takes advantage of its superior ceiling and avoids it altogether other than lobbing the occasional beyond-visual-range missile; it is far too valuable to risk in such a fashion. It takes off from runways in the heart of Switzerland to avoid being struck while still moving below mach 5. Its existence is officially denied. It lacks the numbers to do significant structural damage to the industrial capacity of a nation and the rapid acceleration and deceleration prevent it from carrying nuclear weapons safely, as does the tremendous heat it accumulates. It has hardpoints for 8 2000 pound bombs, or 16 1000 pound bombs, etc.
-Space program: Y
Army:
-Size: Every male in Konföderation Schweizer (KS for short or Swiss Confederacy) between the ages of 18-30 are members of the military, either as active members or part of the reserves. Each possesses at least a fully automatic SIG 750 and 60 rounds of ammunition. Those who prove themselves and volunteer may possess heavier weapons from the SIG 650 LMG all the way up to the Panzerfaust IV railgun. Military vehicles are operated by a small amount of professional soldiers who show their aptitude for the job. Additionally, the national government is constitutionally forbidden from surrendering. So about 3 million troops, though rarely mobilized to that degree for anything less than a full-blown invasion.
-Primary focus: In a strange shift from past doctrine, the current focus is now on Swiss air power, which is where the brightest candidates and the lion's share of funding goes.
-Technology: Very good. Some examples of this technology AMRAAM Mk III, a very long distance air to air stealth missile capable of holding a small tactical nuclear warhead for creating EMP to disable aircraft not quite so well EMP shielded as Swiss Aircraft. The crown jewel and bread and butter of the air force in one, is the Oerlikon O-26 "
Hurrikan" Stealth Air Supremacy Fighter.
-Nuclear arsenal: Y, about 300 strategic warheads and 1500 tactical. For tactical, think this sort of
thing, nuclear bunker busters, etc.
