So I have this torture thingy, which is basically this one-tile bridge surrounded my 5 walls with one opening. Dwarf stands on bridge, another Dwarf pulls lever and repeats, Bridge opens and Dwarf falls 4 stories onto a copper spear that's also connected to the lever. I don't use it to kill but to torture when I'm bored or pissed off at a noble. So I had this test subject fisherdwarf who I used to test the trap and my new hospital. So he falls, he slams into walls and fractures his ribs and lungs. Ok he goes to the hospital, lies on the table for 2 years, getting no water in the winters may I add because I don't have a well and the moment he gets fixed (but with his bones fractured still) and then goes back to bridge. I open the lever and then he breaks some bones and he's rescued again. After he gets cured, he's back to the burrow and this time, just to see how far I can go I open the bridge and after he falls down I keep retracting and extending the copper spear for atleast an ingame day. I check how he is and his legs and arms are broken and cut open, his pancreas, liver and lungs in torn open, his ribs are broken, his lower spine is broken, his body is torn open and his head is oozing blood. He is on a pile of vomit and blood, a ghost is beside him but he is happy... This time he isn't rescued for some reason and he dies out of starvation and thirst... after 3 weeks. Before he died,  I saw that Urist was "incredibly tough, not easily susceptible to disease, incredibly strong, incredibly agile but clumsy'. And I tortured him instead of enrolling him to the army. NOOOOOOO!

Urist McFreud, Chief Psychotherapist Dwarf, has much to say regarding this statement.

You better pray he doesn't come back as a ghost.

He didn't suffocate from having his lungs torn open? Vampire?

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.

You made him incredibly tough. Your torture chamber doubles as danger room training.

I can imagine the hilarity of conscripting such a dorf into the army.
"Kill that forgotten beast or its back to the torture chamber you hear?"

Now scale this up and produce hardened veterans for your militia. I suggest starting with children. The earlier the better.

Can anyone tell me how to make children go anywhere? They don't respect burrows!

Yeah, pretty much the only way to get a child to go anywhere is a fortress-wide alert.

I will run the experiment to completion anyway, however. Even if the only reason why there is a punctured equilibrium in the fortress is because I have been brutally butchering babies
EDIT: I just remembered that dwarves can't equip halberds. That might explain why the squads that use them always die.

He can't be agile and clumsy at the same time. Those are different ends of the same scale.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Having punctured lungs, and not being a vampire would mean the dwarf had suffocated, but it's a sort of amusing story so lets ignore that it's made up?
