Well I love this game, so much that I installed Windows 98 on my computer just to play as it had trouble with XP (and forget about 7).

Apparently though I didn't love it that much to realise that GOG has been selling it to work on updated OS's for almost a year now.

GET IT HERE!!!

This is one of my favourite games, like all games it has it's problems but it had an amazingly fun combat system although the party AI which can control your team-mates is pretty bad. The combat system for me was one of the best, and for me only Mount and Blade has managed to exceed it but Silver is still pretty damn good.

The graphics are good for the time as this game was released in 1999 but obviously very blocky and chunky by today's standard. The soundtrack is brilliant and the voice acting is generally great and it has an interesting storyline.

This is a hack-n-slash RPG where you can actually hack, and slash, and lunge, and turn into a werewolf. This is the combat system I would recommend for all RPG games, if Skyrim/Oblivion had a combat system like this it would be amazing, by lunging or slashing you feel like your doing it with the mouse movement while Oblivion and Skyrim the combat just felt disconnected from what I was doing with the controls.

This is an absolutely great game to buy and I recommend everyone plays it!

I played the PCGamer demo of this SO. MUCH. Never got the full game, though. Fond memories of that combat system, indeed.

I may just have to grab it. I heard it wasn't a very good game, so I never gave it much thought. How's the story/characters?

Well it's not a masterful story, and you don't really feel any sense of urgency, basically the game premise is some guy who rules the world kidnaps loads of women of which one if your wife to become his wife so your story is just to rescue her however in the leadup there are more tragic and interesting moments and really you don't ever care about the wife.

There is some fun writing and voice acting to make the game enjoyable but the combat is great. So story overall not so great but characters are.

Looks pretty cool. The graphics remind me a lot of Final Fantasy VII.

Box art makes it look like an Ultima.

Oh my, I haven't seen this game in ages; I think I might have the discs around somewhere.

I remember how it took me ages to figure out that the monk is better WITHOUT weaponry. Though that magic tracking razor glaive thingy does have good synergy.

I have a copy of this in the huge boxes PC games used to come in. Got given it back when I started out with PC gaming.

I also really enjoyed the combat.

Yes Cagen unarmed is pretty bad-ass, but Jug can be fun as well without weapons.

I used to play it on my dreamcast but it always froze at the same moment after 2 or 3 hours from the beginning. It looked really nice indeed  :(

The Gog version apparently suffers from timing issues due to running on faster computers than intended. If you're having trouble with timing in a puzzle, just look on their forums for a solution.

Duke's portrait is truly an image I've had seared into my memory for years and years. As soon as I saw it again, it brought a huge smile to my face. :D

Also, using my awesome Future Knowledge, I've realised that Fuge's voice is the Dungeon Keeper mentor, Richard Ridings.

Edit: This forum's periodic blacking out is very annoying and somehow corrupted a lot of this post. I had to re-write half-deleted words and change things I had already changed before... very weird stuff. o_O

Yes, the bell into Lower Rain was frustrating but do-able. I bought this on GoG just because I feel they deserve my money for making this game available. It works fairly well, had one random crash so far but not able to reproduce it so not a big deal.

Also playing it again just reminds me how games nowadays are more obvious in telling people where to go, while Silver you have to explore everything as it doesn't tell you where you need to go all the time, it's easy to miss entrances to other locations.

Just wanted to say that I completed the GoG version on Windows 7 64bit with only one random crash in the game so it seems to be working fine.

I still missed a few items by forgetting to get the all-seeing amulet because getting to that room is stupidly hard to see unless you know it's there. Also I feel embarassed that I still lost to the final boss the first time because I forgot that you can damage him in the air instead of when he is just in the ground.

Still now to replay the game with Vivienne and Chiaro because there is a hoard of unheard conversation when you use different party members to talk to people.
