"im fine with that arangement, when do we get underway?" says Auron not bothering to look up from his game of galaga

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

"Leaving as soon as we all find some ships," Scott said, looking around the hangar. "Not exactly spoiled for choice here, are we? Hey, Jimmy. You see another one of those Typhoons around?" he asked, indicating the ship his fellow pilot was standing near.

"No sir," said Jimmy, feeling too pleased to look sheepish as he came towards Scott. In a lower voice he hoped only Scott would hear he added, "Look, boss, I won't entirely resent you pulling rank if you want to take it and I get one of them Thunderchilds, but hell if I'm not keen to get a good look at her fancy systems..." he finished, nodding towards the Typhoon.

He reflected a moment, rubbing his chin with the back of his gloved thumb.

"Well, ok, I might resent it a little..."

"Nah, I'm fine. I'll just look and see what else is available. You go on ahead and get it prepped for flight," Scott said, giving Jimmy a thumbs up before moving off to see what was available to fly.

"Exactlyy. Now get cleaning. I'll be the musician, you be the clean-plane-er." Solana nods gravely. She puts an arm around the engineer's waist and firmly guides him towardsthr cleaning tools.

"Whaaaa..." The man protests mildly, being pushed to never before been used cleaning tools.

"Nah, I'm fine. I'll just look and see what else is available. You go on ahead and get it prepped for flight," Scott said, giving Jimmy a thumbs up before moving off to see what was available to fly.

You quickly make sense of the roster and whats already seemed to have been claimed...

Quote
-Typoon 1         (Jimmy)
-Thunderchild 1 (Auron)
-Thunderchild 2 (Solana)
-Thunderchild 3 (Prospero)
-Blackweave 1
-Blackweave 2
-Blackweave 3
-Blackweave 4
-Blackweave 5
-Blackweave 6
-Blackweave 7
-Blackweave 8

Leaving you and Inara with the buckets to fly.

Check the ships, try to scout out a ship which holds two people. If not, aim for an unoccupied Thunderchild.

The Blackweave FB's can in fact hold two pilots-one to fly and one to bomb or man turrets-but all the Thunderchilds seem to have been claimed...

Claim a Thunderchild! Check if everything's working and see if I can make sense of the targeting computers.

Everything seems a-okay!

The targeting computers are Imperial Standard-which is to say, pretty much useless against anything with modern ECM. You sigh.

Walking back over to his thunderchild Auron climbs into the cockpit then adjusts everything to conform to his body, completes the pre flight checks and boots up a game of galaga on his pad while he waits for the launch order.

play galaga in cockpit, beat high score

Booting up Galaga-always a favorite among cadets-you begin to kill some time before the mission...

Here they come!

[Piloting Roll 6+1=7 VS 10, Diff 3, Result TIE]
[Reflex Roll 5 VS 6, Enemy gains AoO]

[Enemy Reflex Roll 6 vs 9, MISS]

You deftly avoid the zooming missiles of the insect-like invaders with skill, before launching your own volley...

[Piloting Roll 10+1=11 VS 2, Diff 9, Result gain two attacks]

[Reflex Roll 7 VS 2, HIT]
[Reflex Roll 10 VS 5, HIT]

Plumes of multi-colored pixels fly in glorious patterns as the invaders are decimated! Only a few left...the big ones, they're a bit faster.

[Piloting Roll 7+1=8 VS 2, Diff 6, Result gain one attack]
[Reflex Roll 1 VS 5, MISS]

*Counter attack*

[Enemy Reflex Roll 7+1=8 VS 8, TIE]

You dodge the whirling red tipped missile by a hairsbreadth. How'd he sneak past you?

Well, this is certainly exciting.

Scott gets in one of the unoccupied Blackweaves and starts prepping it for flight.

"Wish they'd let me keep my old hunk of junk. The Sorraia was like an old friend..." he sighed as he started going through the pre-flight checklist.

Jimmy sat down and began to check through everything. After all the waiting, he thought he might've been nervous, but he slipped right into the pre-flight routine. Made himself comfortable with the straps. Checked the computers, targeting, sensors. Stuck on his helmet and discretely checked his comms. Looked out from and around the cockpit surface to check his visibility, checking nothing stopped him from craning his neck round almost behind him.

He flicked through the lines of switches and felt at home.

Get ready!

"Look at it this way, Paprika, at least you can see your reflection better!" Inara said as she pointed at the Blackweave fighter-bomber.

Seeing how everyone else was busy, she moved up over to the man with the significant hat.

"Scott, everything else is taken and all we've got is the ol' heavy wing. With your skills, I'd bet we can turn it into something fierce! I'll man the pilot's seat if you don't mind." she said, looking at the man mentioned. In truth, it was hard to quantify being in a separate fighter for practical purposes - leaving another for the number of pilots, or just leaning on her insecurity of flying alone in such a device.

Honestly, up until now, she had thought that everyone already had a fighter claimed.

Please can someone be with me in that thing...

Join in on Scott's flight plan, hopefully. If not, get myself my own fighter!

Scott looked at Inara from the pilot's seat for a moment. "...While I think it'd be better if you had your own ship so we could actually use our three team system we got goin' on here, I'll let you just this once. Hop on in." He leaned out and held out a hand to help her into the ship. Once she was in, he moved over to man the Blackweave's turrets and tucked his hat into the storage compartment in front of his seat. "I hope you can deal with a Blackweave. This thing's a piece of crap and slower than continental drift, but she's got enough armor to keep us alive. Anyway, don't worry about shooting. Let me handle that; it's kind of my specialty."

"To be honest with you," Inara said from the pilot's seat, "I'm no better a flyer than anyone else here - except Paprika and some others, I guess - but I do know when danger is happening and where most of the controls are; which to press in an emergency situation to stay alive. Angling and shifting to shoot or be shot, to state it bluntly."

She smiled. "Thanks for the hand."

"No problem. Always be courteous to the ladies and give 'em a hand when they might need it, my dad said, and that bit of wisdom hasn't steered me wrong yet. Anyway, might as well make yourself comfortable. We're going to be in this thing awhile," Scott said, checking out the turret controls and moving them around experimentally. "Speaking of, might as well fill the time with talking. What's your home world like?" he asked, glancing over at her as he did so.

"A paradise filled with life and beauty stretching from north to south pole, resources just waiting to be utilized by the adventurous explorer."

Inara turned to look at Scott, putting a hand over the seat to support herself. "That's what pamphlets say. In truth, what I think of it is like any other world. It was given a chance to regrow what was taken from it - the common metals civilized empires use for their advancement including other things. The wildlife is as welcoming as a cat to a mouse is, and its mostly a place to forget the worries of the world.

"Sad thing is, its too much of a paradise. I mean, yes the sunsets and sunrises are beautiful, including all the phases of the moon. The wildlife and flora are also as welcoming, despite the natural hostility. Its basically as good as you'd get - including the many ruins of ancient civilizations dotting the landscape. Reminds me of one of the modern-era films I used to see when I was young. Indiana Jones styled areas. But enough about me...What brought you here?"

I can't believe I skipped that...
