They're basically the same thing. In adapter settings, does it say local area connection or ethernet?

depending on what your service provider is, occasionally they only allow so many computers per household.  Seriously, call your ISP please.  Or at least tell us who it is, what your household situation is.
Right. I heard a lot of people called their ISP and they fixed it; apparently they block computers with Windows 8 accidentally sometimes... :\
*sigh...* I just got this computer/monitor for $1,400.00 and it has yet to be of any use to me, and nothing but trouble. Sometimes technology can piss me off.  :'(

Ethernet. I have an ethernet cable connected from a little box to my computer. Then, I have another little box connected with a ethernet cable into my router. I guess that's kind of weird, but it has worked for my other computer for YEARS.

Ah. I think it says local area on 7, and ethernet on 8.

That makes sense. Gah! I just need this damn thing to work! I can't call my ISP since I am not the one paying for it.

One more thing; Windows 8 isn't activated, because I don't have any internet to activate it from... I can activate it via phonecall but I didn't think it mattered..?
