Sewer Quest
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:46:39 pm »

So I have a quest to kill someone in a sewer. I found the person. The problem is that they are in a 1 square sewer with no entrance or exit and only a grate above them. Solutions?

Throw sharpened rocks at him, maybe you'll get lucky?

Charge at him and stab him 37 times in the upper body.

Things like this are dumb and annoying enough to merit hacking. Use DFhack to fill his little section of sewer with magma.

Sharpened rocks will get him to give in to pain then throwing won't do anything. Get a crossbow and some bolts, those will make him bleed, hope you pierce an artery. Don't give in to the hacks!

I can reliably hit and hurt  prone and unconscious enemies with ranged attacks. The problem seems to be that you cannot hit a prone target _while sneaking_. When you stop hiding, you can hit them again, but they can also act according to your presence. It's a bit weird, but serves to slightly moderate the overpoweredness of ranged combat.

I had similiar problem, the only stairway which led to the guy was blocked... I tried to travel (above) but I just remained in place. And there's nothing 1Z-level up. So it's worldgen fault I think

I think fire can hit unconscious enemies, but I know that when I've incapacitated animals and try to throw rocks at them, they are unaffected because my adventurer no longer sees them as hostile.

Sometimes you can swim in from a sewer entrance in a nearby river.  Although that often requires you to be able to breath underwater, so unless you are a vampire/werebeast it might not work.

most sewer entrances are from a local water-way, or if there is a sewer entrance you still have to go through a under-water part. I consider this kind of broken as the only adventurer i had that ever got rid of the annoying quests in the quest menu and the getting rid of the "TSK" in the directions was a vampire (and it was troublesome for him, he had to walk through a water-only 1-tile wide sewer floundering half the time to kill the lizardmen and got trapped in the sewer from the river freezing outside, so i had to skip turns for 4 hours or so...).

anyway, go into raws and add in [AMPHIBIOUS] token to your adventurer's race and track the grates to a water-way, there should be and entrance to the sewers.

99% of the time, sewers are accessible through the dungeons located under the town/city keep.  There's no need to edit the raws.  If you train the swim skill high enough, you can swim fast enough to make it through the tunnel before you drown.

You could use the new version of DFHack and use advfort to dig a path/hole to him.

dunno about you, but my sewers were completely submerged with no air spaces above, some of which were multi-leveled (instant-drown). And i set the vampires and werebeasts count to 0 in the world i edited the raws in since it was such a old world, if i didnt do that there would be a million lairs with night creatures in them. So there was no way to become a vampire and avoid drowning.

If you put all the rocks you want to throw into a bag then throw the bag or use a pouch full of coins you can shatter bones and skulls. As far as I know more weight in a thrown object means more damage but can you throw through a grate?
