Take polls on public opinion.

Research current law.

Research backers of other candidates.

Would anyone be interested in backing a bill to establish the Committee of the Whole as a standing committee, consisting of all 483 members of the National Assembly, but with a quorum of, say, 50 members? As used with the Eagleland National Congress, this allows us to ignore the rather impractical 242 member quorum for debate and discussion of laws and allows disinterested parties to go home instead of being forced to attend debates that are out of their field of expertise and go right over their heads. If approved, we only get out the full assembly for the final, Yay-or-Nay vote on a bill.

Wouldn't that require us to have the quorum in the first place?

Well, we do. This is effectively lowering the quorum for debate so that we can go off and vacation with our absurd piles of cash instead of listening to people debate hammock tensile strength regulations. We come back for the final vote after the people that really care about hammocks and know all about them have come up with a law.

Note: Like all of my games, please copy-paste your character sheet xD I have chronic unable-to-track-character-sheets-without-burning-out-itis.

Borno the Techdemocat researches the current law. 5

Law
  • Constitutional Law: Created when the nation was constructed. Has strict regulations regarding its editing. It also has absolute authority.
  • Assembly Law: Law created by the National Assembly. It is the second highest law.
  • Orders: Rules set up by local government.
More specific search terms are needed.

He then takes a poll of Nexxxxt Games:

PopularityNexxxxt Games is the top of the game industry in Yan, with at least a 72% market share.
Reported IncomeNexxxxt Games has reported income of about 5,500,000. It has been taxed for ₩148,500.
Alleged Political ConnectionsNexxxxt Games strongly denies any connections, but it is practically a known fact that it has strong ties with the Betacrat party.

1 He is not well known enough to request a meeting with a company. He has to show that he is willing to cooperate with CEOs.

Scapheap the Alphacrat
Specify what about law to research.

Popular backer:
The following are alleged to back many politicians.

  • Sasung (Four Star)
  • Seven Castles
  • Nexxxxt Games
  • ADX Insurance
  • Mirai Heavy Industries

Most of them back Betacrats.

4 gains 0.2 points to STRENGTH.

Grek the Other:
Government Income:
The government gains most of its income through taxes. Taxes are applied differently depending on seven broad brackets of income, and depending on whether it is an incorporated entity or an individual. The brackets and tax rates of corporations are wider and lower than those of individuals. More information may be found in this Google Doc, containing graphs and charts of taxes and income. Some income is obtained through foreign or domestic investments, and a negligible portion is obtained from fees and fines.

Combat training: 4 0.2 Strength gained.

Puppet corp: 2 He has to either pay ₩ 12000 in lawyers fees (99% success rate) or try it himself and only pay ₩ 1000 in paperwork (26% success rate). Choose which one to do. This does not count as an action next turn.

Remuthra the Other
Specify what part of law to research.
5-3 Unaffiliated politicians are very impeded in their ability to gain contributions. Yan is a party political system. Still, unaffiliated politicians often have a strong, loyal, and small base. He gains ₩ 5000 in pledges.

Betacrats are the absolute majority, having 46.1% of the seats in the Assembly. They are a conservative party. Yan is traditionally a conservative nation, and the elders often just pick whoever's from the Betacrat party. As a direct result, the younger people of Yan dislike the Betacrats in general.

Techdemocrats take 33.5% of the Assembly. They are a slightly less conservative party and the only real force to stand against the Betacrats, along with the Alphacrats, who are 12.8% of the Assembly. They are often viewed as the Good against the Evil Conservatives and thus have a substantial standing.

Fembots and Goblins are radical groups whose fanatic policies and laws have attracted a tiny following.

Unaffiliated Assembly members take up 1.4% of the Assembly.

Javier the Techdemocrat:
Same, specify what to research.

6 He is able to lobby his way into a private audience with the CEO of MadHatter. He pays ₩ 1000 for the right to do that. (Subtract from bank account)

What to do?

Combat training: 1 He sprains a leg. Isn't as spriggy as he was during his youth. -0.2 strength.

IntelligentMoron the Betacrat
SAME

Combat training: 4 0.2 Strength gained.

Incorporation: Pay ₩ 12000 for lawyer with fees? Or do it yourself for ₩ 1000 and a 26% success rate?

GreatWyrm the Diamond Party polls public opinion.

4
The nation is running more or less well.
The economy is ok.
Inflation is low.
The Assembly is corrupt as always, but not as corrupt as the legendary dictator General Pancake's reign.
The big corporations oppress the little corporations and the people, but the nation does nothing about it. Must be because the nation is taking implicit bribes from the CEOs.
Prices are a bit high.
The nation is safe.
The neighbors up north are quiet.
The nation has recently launched a rocket, the first venture into space! Happy!
The Diamond Party? Who's that?

(specify what law to research)

(candidates?)

Finalize your actions, for those who need additional input, like what to research, to choose a lawyer or not...

Also, prepare a bill if you wish to do so. Specify who you want to target for your speech. Remember that targeting a different party gives you a penalty to your speech.

Betacrat -> anyone = -3
Alphacrat -> anyone except Betacrats = -2, Betacrats -3
Techdemocrat -> anyone = -2
Unaffiliated/Other -> anyone except Betacrats = -0, Betacrats -1

You can see that everyone hates the Betacrats, and the Betacrats hate everyone back. But the Betacrats also have a 46.2% majority.
Unaffiliated/Other parties have low penalties for talking to other parties.

This penalty stacks on top of a "reasonability" penalty. A bill to construct a Yanian Death Star would be -6, while a bill to raise corporate taxes overall by 0.5% could be -3. A -1 would be "raise Assembly salary by 10%."

Remember to update and post your character sheets.

Also handy link to Google Docs with a bunch of info.

I am the politician. It is me.

Points:
2 to HP, 2 to speechpower, 1 to strength, 0 to cunning, 5 to steelface.

I am unaffiliated. In fact, I plan to be my own party! Someday. I suppose. The Department of Defense looks like a good thing to research, do so along with our suppliers.

Re: National Assembly — You Be Politican!: A couple seats left
« Reply #28 on: March 01, 2013, 11:14:44 am »

I don't know what exact system we're using, but with the British government, each seat has a constituency, made of a group of citizens all in certain area, be it a few nearby towns or a single city. When candidates are elected, the votes in the constituency chooses which politician from the area sits in their seat. Generally, only one politician from each party stands for each seat, but not all parties get a candidate.

Arrange meeting of betacrat party
during the meeting attempt to pursuade the party to Greks proposal, however with the addition of 2 ride-on bills to make it more appealing to betacrats. The first is to provide government subsidies in the amount of 4 billion from the defense fund to defense corporations (as well as a promise to share any gifts provided among the party) and the appointment of dojogrecko as the official provider of government self-defense training with a budget of 1 billion. the second is the appointment of a government funded corporation to aid orphans and others affected by the death of a family member due to conflict with ramenia. This corporation (my own) named The Patriots Fund shall receive 1 billion dollars from the defense fund having determined them as the responsible parties to help aid these poor people

Arrange meeting with defense CEOs

Launch a jingoistic media blitz against Ramenia portraying them as heartless monsters who want nothing but to kill us all, emphasizing the human toll and cost at the hands of these monsters as well as the governments glorious duty in protecting the people
