Adventure Mode Role Playing
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:38:54 am »

Hey Guys, I've just recently established my first successful (read: not dead) Human Pikeman, have a fair few quests under my belt, great armour, and exceptional skills, as well as a few companions with Me to avoid being Boogey'd to death. I just wanted to ask the denizens of Bay 12, how do You guys RP in Adventure Mode? Do You take over a certain site, stock it with furniture and trophies and keep it as a home? idly wander through town between adventures, chatting with NPC's and generally pretending to "live"?

I'm  hoping to eventually become a Night Creature, before becoming a Necro and establishing myself as the overlord of the continent. So, any one else RP while playing Adventure mode?

I tend to gen an early world, early as I can, and go around killing animals and putting one part of each of them on my weapon.
This is with mods, of course.

The new update is gonna make roleplayers cum repeatedly for a long period of time.

Right now tho, I usually look for hamlets with abandoned houses or check out my old forts for artifacts and stuff, but before I do something cool I usually die to strange creatures. Like a Bandit Kid who turns out to be a werebeast.

And yeah, attaching bodyparts of your victims to chest armor or the weapon is awesome.

I haven't played in a while, but I'm excited for the next version.

One thing I might do for RP's sake is mod in tooth necklaces and other trophy items. As a kobold sympathizer, I imagine them being superstitious, wearing animal trophies, totems, and such to gain the animals' power. Maybe I could decorate a hut with trophies.

One character concept I brought up in another thread: Kobold thief/trader. Buy/steal the finest clothes I can find, build/steal a caravan, visit/steal distant civilizations for trade, buy/steal steel bars and equipment. Give the stuff to my civ's chieftain in tribute, retire, go to fortress mode, conquer/steal nearest elf civ with surprisingly well-equipped kobolds.

Another concept is a demon cultist. Generate a world where a demon has taken over a civilization by posing as a deity. Serve that demon fanatically. Build temples to his glory, distribute his literature, strike down the unbelievers.

Bronze Dog has been feeling rather happy lately. He is fond of scimitars, black bronze, turquoise, and kobolds for their underdog status.

Genesis Rebirth mod, I heard you can do it in Masterwork as well.

You can tan hides, produce weaponry, make leather clothes and bags, bone weapons and many other things. And at last - engraving. You can attach gems or bones to your equipment, as long as you have a toolset (which I always steal from dead peasants) and bones/gems. You can make spikes, bands and rings.

Genesis is awesome. I recommend it to you.

Dfhack r3 has adventure tools that gives you access to fort mode jobs like building workshops to craft items and cut down trees, and mine.
Though you need to look out for your sleep, hunger, thirst or your adventurer will just drop what they was doing and tend to their needs. good news for sleeping with out loading the map, bad news of having your character deciding instead of fishing for food they would like to run around trying to catch a vermin instead. though during those moments you can regain control over the character, but then you are temporarily lock out of fort mode jobs. kinda adds a small bit of fun to vast amounts of content depending on which mod you include. though it's pretty rough as some workshops don't work properly and end up not being built at all.

Hard science is like a sword, and soft science is like fear. You can use both to equally powerful results, but even if your opponent disbelieve your stabs, they will still die.
