Game II- Round 13: Reunion


Fancy McMonocle tips his top hat. "You are an honorable chap, Mr Foreman! I am honored to have dueled with such a foe." "Ptyew!" Hoyt spat out some blood onto the side of the field, rubbing it off his face with the back of his hand, which incidentally just got more on his face rather. He had a mad grin on his face, as if he was relishing every ragged breath, every inch of pain. "Yer damned roight we're no' done 'ere." Moving his neck back and forth, issuing forth cracks each time, he gripped his hammer once more steadily in his grasp. "Than's fer killin' dat monkee' was ah reel pain in mah side." He let out a chuckle at the joke, the two holes in his side still bleeding, usual boisterous voice was replaced by a calm one. For the moment, that is. "DEATH OR GLORY!" He screamed with the last of his might, swinging his hammer as fiercely as he could at the mustached mustachio golem.

Hoyt Foreman charged once again, but the second time around Fancy McMonocle was ready for a repeated attack. He stepped to the side at the last minute as Hoyt swung by again, missing, and the monocled mustache swung at him, the two of them reenacting something out of a bullfight. (4+1 vs. 1) Hoyt slows his charge down after the sword connects. (-6 HP) He stares forward into a bare splotch of clear forest. "Hey Fenci'...whose' 'em?" Fancy looks in the same direction. "What? How are you talking about? We're the only ones still here." Hoyt ignored Fancy stepping forward. "Nah', they comin' closa'.....hey! Its 'em! Relee' 'em!" He ran forward into the section of the forest he was staring at, dropping his sledgehammer behind him. "Mum! Pa! I knew ya' too' neva' relee' died! Com' gimmie' a big hag'!" Hoyt grinned widely and wrapped his arms around a space of empty air. And then immediately collapsed.


Fancy McMonocle has slain Hoyt Foreman!

As the only remaining competitor, Fancy McMonocle Wins the Second Game!


"Looks like the gentleman came out the victor in this game! That's all for today, and remember folks, the Arena makes dreams come true!




And the second games are over. Xantalos will help me design the next arena.

As for more mechanics I decided would improve the game, I'm going to implement a Disarming System.

In future games, getting a particularly hard shot to the weapon or certain parts of the body will cause it to fly out of it's users hand and onto the ground. At this point it's status will be that of an item or a chest, and can be picked up and fought over the same way.

I will be specifically noting whether weapons are held by one or two hands. Two-handed weapons have a sturdier grip, making them harder to disarm. On the other hand, if someone wields a one-handed weapon they are able to pick up and use another one-handed weapon at the same time. (But they can only attack with one weapon at a time, and by default they'll attack with the weapon that gives them more of an advantage. I.E., someone with a machete and a shield would use the machete for offensive attacks, and the shield for defensive attacks, unless they specifically want to attack with a certain weapon, which they can request.)

 Everyone can only start with one weapon, but can pick up, drop, and swap weapons throughout the course of the match. Also, the weapons and inventory of any slain characters will turn into pick-up-able items.

That sounds ... actually pretty good. Now then, for environments ...
I'm tempted to suggest a maze of some sort, but that wouldn't go over well. Hmm...

Well, it was a good fight. Hoyt was a blast to play, too bad about that string of bad luck but I knew it would come around eventually from the good luck in the middle. Was surprised he lasted as long as he did honestly.

Now, to think up of a new character... Hm.

I know I'm not going to get much of anywhere, but that actually seems like it would be kinda cool. Certainly dramatic.

I was trying to go for the dramatics with that, in the vein of Xantalos since I thought it would be funny. The idea would be someone who literally could only use ranged magical attacks, and as they get more hurt they become more dangerous, with them having a last stand kind of thing at the very end with a powerful blast before dying.

With not carry on, you mean that he won't get his bonuses, or that he simply just won't be able to do a magic blast?

I'm fine with mid-game tweaks for balance, the abilities are just off the top of my head.

Dramatics in the "last two, gets killed, kills the winner, then dies" kind of thing instead of the characters. Thought it would be funny if there wasn't a winner for the arena, as what would happen then? Missingo takes the reins?

With not carry on, you mean that he won't get his bonuses, or that he simply just won't be able to do a magic blast?

The latter, so he can do a regular, non-bonus attack if he wishes, or he can do any other action during his last turn.

New Weapons:

Revolver (1) - A classic long-barreled six-shooter. It's accurate and packs a punch, giving it a +1 to all shots. However, unlike many other firearms the arena supplies, the revolver can only use the ammunition that it comes with, so after using six bullets that's it. Maybe you could still club someone over the head with it.

Power Fist (1) - A sophisticated piece of machinery that is worn around the fist like a glove. The device magnifies the force of any regular hand attack exponentially, so all hits deal an extra +2 HP damage. The power is also so strong that if the user misses their attack, the PF will still drag their mass forward and fling them onto the ground, causing them to lose their next turn.

Sabre (1) - A curved sword renowned for it's mobility, slashing power and flair. The speed and unpredictability of a sabre gives it's holder a +1 to the first attack on any opponent who has not engaged them, as the opponent will be caught off guard and have to adjust to the exotic blade. And while it's excellent for dueling other blades with, heavy blunt weapons have an easier chance of knocking the sabre out of it's wielder's hands.

Laser Pistol (1) - A futuristic weapon modeled after a pistol that fires long bursts of green laser energy in a straight line from the tip. The secret to the laser technology? A special material powered by sunlight, meaning the output of this weapon depends on how much sunlight is present to the arena. Direct sunlight means every shot gets a +1, partial/covered sun means it fires like a generic ranged weapon, and if sunlight isn't available the Laser Pistol loses it's shooting capabilities.
