You don't need to be pathetic to die, just unlucky.

A person with a shield who  lost points  for directly killing people won because he was lucky enough to kill the last other player. AND, while a guy who actually tried to kill other players, in a strategic manner (at first focusing on the low-HP ones, then when there weren't those left the ones with ranged weapons) lost completely due to unluckily being shot.

I'm not asking for a complete revamp of the system, just some alterations--ones I would be willing to write up if desired.
FTFY
Man, were you writing that on a cell phone? There are so many typos!
Tablet, but it all comes down to the same issues.

That and I completely disagree. TCM already said (s?)he would change some mechanics, but to his/her ideas.
PLUS, RTD is a luck-based game most of the time. If you are unlucky, then you'll lose often. Be unlucky enough, and you can lose in some spectacular ways. I've actually hoped to get bad rolls in some situations, just so if I DID die, I'd die in style.
I'm just providing my ideas and offering my aid.
And how would luck be affected by such things as having notorious kills be worth more or letting people keep points after death?
Letting people keep points after death defeats the purpose. The only point of HAVING points is if there's a tiebreaker. Notorious kills could be viable, but once again, the points don't matter very much at all.

Tell me, what is the point? To discourage getting into fights as opposed to making sure you survive any attacks like the winner of this round did?

OK, this is just getting laborious now. The one guy who did not do what everyone else did (all out fight) won... with a fair bit of luck. He was VERY lucky to get the win, with the right choices made earlier by the contestants.

Points are there to ensure that if everyone didn't attack at all, they eventually would since noone would pass the opportunity to kill those fluffy thingies. Getting points also puts a nice target on your back, and that's part of it too. Sure, seeing the guy who didn't get any kills till the end may seem 'boring' to an audience and so on, but it isn't the norm. The fact that it still took a bit of luck for this guy to win should demonstrate as such.

Points are there for when there are still combatants alive, in which case the winner is the more entertaining. It's like boxing. You get scored as you fight. One guy could be POUNDING the other and scoring by the dozen. But, if the attacker is suddenly knocked out by a 'lucky' or good shot, the points don't matter and he loses. Simple.

Bear in mind, those who avoid fights end up having high hp, which does, eventually, turn the pack on them.

1. What did you expect everyone else to do, ignore the threats attacking them in favor of a guy who would be harder to hit? It would be perfectly logical to save guys like that for the last to be attacked.

2. Why does getting points out a target on your back? (Oddly enough, the system I suggested would do so, but the current one does not.)

3. The "high HP" thing turns attackers AWAY. They prefer to attack those with lower health, who aren't taking actions to defend themselves extra.

4. Your boxing analogy is nice and all, but this doesn't have to be that way. Should a lucky turtler be able to ruin an otherwise awesome game by stepping in with near-full health to finish off the doubtlessly greatly injured would-be victor? If you think so, we obviously have different goals.

2. Well, because, if the round ends due to time, they have a higher chance of winning. If they die, then they no longer have a chance at all, making to odds better.

3. Not necessarily. I always go for the people with High HP, as they're likely one of the bigger threats. If people who have Low HP try to attack you, you have a better chance of killing them with a counter. If someone with High HP attacks you, you'll have a harder time killing them. I'm surprised neither of you clued in on how much of a target Ryan was setting himself up as. High HP, Defence bonuses, and a personality that made nobody care about him. In a good way. You two were so busy withe each other that you forgot how much of a threat he would be once one of you killed the other.

1. Once again, it goes back to 3. If you're playing, say, Left 4 Dead, and you're in a parking lot, and you have a spitter, 3 regular zombies, and a Tank, which would you focus fire on?

4. Well, most people's goals were to survive. Yours' must've been to get the most points. Otherwise you would've clued in, and suggested that you go kill the turtler, whereupon killing him, you would've stabbed the other in the back. It's a viable strategy, what Ryan did, but there's a way around it. You just decided not to take it.

Alright, I talked with superBlast about the next arena. Anyone who wants in, that isn't in the waitlist already, should make their characters as I plan to start the next game in about 24 hours.

If you want to play as your character from the last game, just say so.

You know what would make an even better target, which might help convince people to antagonize someone capable of beating people to a pulp easily?

Um...depends on range, my weapons, and what the heck zombies do in that game I don't play.
Oh, and the status of my teammates--near, far, injured, braindead, etc.

The implication being that a person who turtles until the last round should NOT have an advantage over someone injuring themselves into being an easy kill.

TCM, what changes to the rules are you making?

A Spitter spits acid that can damage the whole party, if they're close together, albeit slowly.

A regular zombie just runs at you and tries to scratch and kill you. Not very damaging.

A TANK is the mother of all zombies. about four times the Survivors' size, and can throw large pieces of concrete, takes a LOT of damage to kill, and can throw you. Often.

Which would YOU go for?

Weapons, you have a melee, which likely will be an Axe or Baseball bat, considering they're the most common, a Main, which is something like an AK-47 or a shotgun, a throwable, from a Pipe Bomb, which will attract normal and some special ombies, like the spitter or Boomer, I think, and blow up, a Bile Vial, which will attract and coat so they'll be attacked by other zombies, or a Molotov, self explanatory.

Allies are, the three character's you're NOT playing as. In L4D1, the characters are a War Vet, a...guy, another guy, and Zoey.

In L4D2, It's a Reporter, A Southerner, a...guy in a suit...and a black guy named Coach.

Not that it matters.

Let me rephrase that.

In this hypothetical situation, which weapons (and how much ammo) do I have at the moment, and how are my allies (all alive, almost dead, worthless, etc), and what is the situation (range and distribution of zombies, cover, environmental hazards, distance to the end of the level, etc).

You do know why I'm asking you this question, right?

The Weapons DO NOT MATTER

Your Allies ARE AT ANY HEATH YOU WANT.

The Situation IS A PARKING LOT. You are NOWHERE NEAR THE SAFEHOUSE. The Spitter is TO YOUR RIGHT. The Regulars are TO YOU BOTTOM LEFT. The Tank is CHARGING AT YOU FROM THE FRONT. There are NO ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS. There is NO COVER.

What would you do? WHO would you shoot first?
