I like this Operation Chastise event. A lot.

1- it's a night battle
2- you don't get to climb 5 minutes before the action
3- you don't get to wait an additional 5 minutes before the action
4- RB RP modifiers
5- I get to kill spitfires
6- I can grind my newly acquired G6 on it

the only way I would like it more was if there was the A8 in it. But you can't have everything.

Just started playing this after a tip from the people in the WoT thread. Was intending to go full bomber, but playing fighters felt so nice my heart is split now.

The progression mechanic will force you to play both eventually, anyways. Which nation have you been flying the most?

Eh, is that so? Then I definitely don't get the research tree, it seemed to me the bombers only had bombers in their branches(except the Soviets, which had a few assault planes in the bomber branch IIRC).
I have been playing soviet exclusively because they had a cheap light bomber that I could rush research in a few matches, but I'm not sure, will probably settle down on the Americans, for the Flying Fortress, or the Japanese, gotta love how weird the Shinden is.

The problem with the progression mechanic is you have to get, I think, 6 vehicles to get to the next tier. For most, if not all nations, you're going to reach a tier where there won't be enough fighters to make it to the next tier, so you'll have to dip into bombers or attackers.

Pretty much, it's retarded and a very annoying way of artificially prolonging the grind, which is already shit tier levels.

I'm pretty pissed at how they change the tech tree too. I was at the cusp of unlocking T5 'muricans, only needed a single plane, and since they'd change the F7F to cost much more XP than before I went for the T4 B17 instead. But, as it turns out, while I was busy researching that plane, they split the two T3 B17's into two separate planes (instead of the variant thingy). So now I have the T4 one unlocked but I can't buy it because I'm missing a previous one, which I skiped because I saw no point in getting a pretty much identical plane to the one I already had.

ha.
haha.
hahahahAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.

*ahem*

Sorry, not only do I play arcade where bombers are nothing better than wrapped experience gifting to enemy fighters, I have also exclusively played Britain, who's bombers are hopelessly fragile in WT.

At least our fighters are awesome-sauce.

EDIT: oh you're playing Russia? Just play any plane :P you'll be fine

It is really, really aggravating when you research something like a yak or a T-34 (or for that matter hetzer, SPAA, or SPGs) and they add in a new one. Its even worse when you only find this out after you finish researching the next one. And they seem to be good at doing that to me.

Oh boy, that does sound pretty bad, even before reading the horror stories after your post.

Good to know about arcade. I did suspect I was having way less impact as a bomber than as a fighter and that killing me with the guiding reticle and all should be just too easy, but since the BB1 is fairly agile and at my tier people will just let you be as long as you don't get too close to the action I haven't been much of a sitting duck just yet.
Gotta learn how to land without screwing my blades on the ground so I can go on realistic  :P

And what's it with Russia's planes, are they that OP?

Russian aircraft are rather sturdy, and possess large guns early on. That or many, many small guns while being able to spin on a dime.

Some attack aircraft are rather good fighters, atleast in certain situations.

Well the BB-1 (and the other ones of its line) is a pretty sweet plane that can dogfight nicely if needed, especially in arcade.

If you wanna go groundstriking tho I reccommend the IL line, they're all pretty much flying tanks with some nice loadouts that are pretty fun to fly ^^

I think one of the IL variants has something insane like 43mm of armor in places...

The Jelly-Welly is supposed to get fixed soonTM. But yes, Brit planes do come with awesome sauce and lil 20mm goodies mixed in.
