I actually started shooting from 700 meters because i just HAD to kill the gunner. You can't see it in the replay but one round hit my fuselage and turned it dark red so i was hell beant on killing him.
I spent all of my cannon ammo and plinked away at the engine with MGs somehow damaging the fuel tank and opened up with all guns again from 400 meters doing jack all the way till he started turning... at whitch point his wing snapped.

Also after his gunner died i was aiming at his right wing most of the time and the replay is not really that accurate when it comes to showing exacly where every bullet went (most noticable at the end where he was turning and my bullets/shells missed him while somehow causing elevator damage).

So they released the tech trees for the next updated: http://devblog.warthunder.com/2014/09/16/update-research-trees-in-1-43/?hl=en

Some really cool stuff to look forward too. But I expect them to break atleast something horribly, otherwise it just wouldn't be a proper update.

Also had my first successful carrier landing today. And the plane didn't even have a landing hook. So I had to do a dry one and go in with the gear up. Lost a bit of a wing and the prop was fucked, then got strafed by an A20 but I lived, and got fixed up nicely :D

Or pretty much anything with a 37mm or heavier gun, really.

Except maybe the P-63. Those things just can't climb.

My b17 killer is my duck. Though to be honest it climbs like shit, so it usually just goes to kill low-flying ones.

i mostly play arcade these days.

Mixed battles RB isn't bad either though. (Not that I play tanks :O). It's mostly because there is less direction towards your opponent.

Pretty sure I would play RB more if there would be less huge maps and less spending 90% of your time merely heading towards a direction and 10% fighting.

I play RB mostly because I can't stand the way AB plays. Too hectic and far too many idiots distressingly close to my plane.

When I play tanks, I generally play SB.

Mostly the same. Used to play AB but was completely disgusted by the bomber spam. I still largely suck at RB tho, the only ones I do decently in are the Germans and the Brits, everyone else is pretty much ten shit games for one decent one.

I play Simulator every now and then, although I stick with IL-2 multi most of the time nowadays. It's just that the spotting in WT Sim Battles is so terrible.

I'm pretty hyped for the updated British bombers.

Ok, so, I'm quitting this thing for the time being.

It just isn't worth it, I'm trying my best to enjoy the game, but there's so much that's working actively against that and there is zero indication Gaijin will fix it anytime soon.

So until the bomber spam is curbed, and the guns are working properly I'll be playing games that aren't five minutes of fun for every fifteen minutes of frustration.

One minute of RB fun is worth an hour of AB fun.

AB is just UFOing around and having the biggest guns.  There's a lot more strategy in RB and kills are more rewarding I think.  There's a finality to it.  In AB there's a million dudes and they're everywhere so it's just basically slashing through furballs amid dozens of indistinguishable blurs.  In RB there's only a few enemies and there's only one life.  When you kill  a dude he's gone.  It feels amazing to win a good duel, to see the nose start wobbling as his energy bleeds out and come back down on him, both of you knowing it's over.  Or catching a guy in a zoom climb with the Thunderkraut and just hosing him down with eight red streaks of tracers, watching his plane just hang there helpless until it comes apart.

Or seeing an enemy spitfire tunnelvision on your bro's tail at like 100m and bouncing him from the stratosphere.  He never even sees you, one second he's the master hunter and the next his aileron pops off and his plane is smearing itself across a mile of France.  Give your bro a thumbs up.  Danger zone.

You have to work harder for them, but RB kills are so much more rewarding than AB kills.
