Of course it has to be a day where I just plain don't feel like playing War Thunder. :(

I just had the weirdest thing happen.  I was flying my P-47 in HB on Guadalcanal, I'm at about 5km up, heading to help out a teammate that was drawing down an A6M3.  I see the enemy AIs engaging ours 6km away to my 5 o'clock, about 2000m down (They were about the middle of cloud height, which I noticed was about 3km when I passed it).  About a minute later, I see four markers on my minimap right behind me.  One is the A6M2 I'd been keeping an eye on, but he was directly below me and 3km away.  I couldn't see the other three anywhere. Suddenly I get hit and my tail, elevators, and fuselage go black, and the three AIs are in a single line on my six, despite having been 6km away and 2000m down a minute before.

WTF...

Probably related to the DDOS earlier today? sounds like some kind of desync with the server.

So, started playing yesterday. Currently level 5 in germany, probably won't play any other country for a while.

What are the strengths of Germany ? I've been having a good time with the He 111 H 6 (feels like you're invulnerable compared to a light fighter, also you can finally not suck against ground targets), same with the bomber stukas but a bit less. Also, I still love my Marcolin's CR42. Is it still good at my level ?

Waiting to get the trollcannon Stukas and a heavier bomber. Does any plane in Germany even has rockets ?

Not sure about the rockets, but tiers matter less than expected. I've seen reserve planes going against tier 3-4 units, and winning, so...

Germans get aircraft with a ton of cannons (they even get an early cannon aircraft at tier 3 i think) and great climbrate.
They're basically energy fighters.

The trollcanon stuka is hilarious since the 37 mm cannon has a decent RoF BUT only carries 12 rounds (so 6 shots that can be used up in 2 seconds).
Better yet... it is considered to be a bomber and starts at bomber altitude so you can murder those poor souls with 37 mm rounds.

It changes a LOT between arcade and historical, but you will basically have mediocre bombers and great energy fighters, id say you will get your first "german"(its actually italian) taste with the MC202, while lacking fire power (a german trend until level 12 or so) it has excelent flight cappabilities if flown right.

EDIT: Some high tier(lvl 10+) german fighters have rockets, but they are anti air rockets and they only carry 2, no one uses them.

Can't think of any German rigs with rockets (if you want rockets, go Russian. Oh dear merciless God, go Russian. Flying an Ishak with rockets and those moar dakka killguns against tier 1-2 planes....).  :o

The He 111 is a really nice early bomber. Huge bomb capacity compared to its counterparts.

The Stuka (I'm thinking B-2, D-3 and D-5 here), once you learn to use it correctly, is an excellent large-target killer. Single 500kg bomb will take out a destroyer, and then you just swoop back up into the clouds to reload. Or if the coast is clear and there's light vehicle targets around, you just buzz around and strafe shit. But until you get some engine/airframe upgrades, it can be painful to fly. Feels like a lawnmower with wings.

Of the Italian stuff, the G.50 is bleah, the MC 200 is mediocre, but the MC 202 is actually pretty decent. The S.79 is also a pretty decent bomber to fill the gap between the He 111 and the heavier bombers.

The He 112 is also an underrated fighter for its tier, especially the B-0 with its cannons.

The Bf 110....let's just say there's a reason the Zerstorer got reassigned from its initial escort role. Pretty sure it's the slowest of the heavy fighters, and probably the least-armed (not sure vs. the Pe-3). You can still do decently well against low-tier opponents but you'll get owned or evaded against most equal or higher tier planes. Nothing more frustrating than flying a 110 and getting outrun by a bomber in level flight.

I hated flying German stuff early on (the He 51 is failtastic, IMHO) but now that I've made it to tier 8, I'm enjoying it. I still fly primarily Soviet (tier 10, almost 11) but do a decent amount of Brit and German stuff too. America has finally gotten enjoyable at tier 7 (P-39s? YES PLEASE), but I have to kind of force myself to play Japanese just for the daily bonus. Which often takes several attempts. The only thing I respect out of the whole JP airfleet so far are the Ki-45s, which play like a poor man's Beaufighter.

You'll sing a different tune once you hit T7 and start getting the proper Zeroes. As a stopgap, the second Hien can actually perform very well; I've had 7-0 or better matches with it, once I figured out how to play it right. At the low tiers, the Hayabusa is also quite good, though as with all Japanese fighters it is flimsy and fire-prone. The key is to sucker people into turnfights.

Their heavy fighters start getting good once you hit the 37mm cannon; if you've flown an Airacobra or Kingcobra, you want to play your firing game the same way, taking careful snipe shots with it.

So here's what I have and here's how I feel about it:

MC 402: Seems pretty good. I didn't fly with it much, though, so yeah.
He 112 B-O: See MC 402, maybe a bit less good, not much experience with it.
BF 110 C-4: The ultimate derp-plane. No manoeuvrability, nor can it turn. Loses energy pretty fast as well. It has nice firepower, and the rear gun is a great thing, but SO hard to aim. Why am I even bothering ?
Ju 87D-5: Well, I just bought it so i don't have much experience with it, but i'll guess it plays like the previous stukas. I bought it for the 20mm gun and the strafing potential, but like the previous ones it's good when you are over 2500 m and with a bomb... otherwise... Though it's fun to switch to rear machinegun and kill fighters who think you're just a target.
He 111 H-3: Hell yes ! Blowing up stuff in style. The main problem with it is that it's seriously not agile and the defensive machineguns seem to be utterly useless even in manual mode, otherwise a fun plane.

I will buy a mouse instead of derping around with my touchpad, though.

Also: joined Bay12 squadron.

Probable latency issues.
Plus I don't have much time to play games anymore...
