Keep in mind, 'crippling' damage like a missing wing or a dead engine already count as a kill, even if you land and manage to repair. This probably isn't going to actually change anything significantly except that if you do get that crippling critical, it just means you're going to be rewarded for it the second it happens so that if some other person comes in and puts a few bullets in the plane, they won't take your hard-earned credit.

Hell, if they implement it badly enough, you might be able to get multiple 'kills' by just breaking a plane into more and more bits as it goes down.

Some interesting things here. Though I'm somewhat worried by the last quote.

Quote
In future, if you shoot off the wing or tail of the enemy who is not close to his airfield, the opponent will be counted as immediately destroyed. This should make the award faster and fairer
I really don't want the computer to kick me out of the plane because it thinks I can't land it. It'll usually be right, but still.
The computer already kicks me out of a plane because it has no motor, and I can still glide with it, so why not that ?

It's not like you can actually fly or land without your tail or a wing.

You might not be able to fly or land without a wing.

I on the other hand, am capable of hitting something important on the way down.

They'd also have to remove the "Some planes can fly even without half a wing" tooltip from loading screens in that case. Or change it to "Some planes can fly even without half a wing but that isn't important since we'll consider you dead anyways"

Whitch planes can fly without half of a wing anyway? All of mine instantly spin out of control the second one wing gets sawed off by a SHvak

Generally, you need a plane with a high thrust to weight ratio, and good rudder authority.

Biplanes, obviously, are quite good at it.

On a side note, this might just be me, but I have the idea that using a joystick makes this kind of stuff easier than using mouse-aim. Instructor does not know how to deal with damage, at all.

The B-17 was famous for returning back from bombing with one engine, half a wing gone and a tail that had more holes than an equal quantity of swiss cheese.

Alot of bombers could pull off similar stunts, perhaps not as shocking.

I wouldn't say it's easier to fly a crippled plane with a joystick so much as it's physically possible. The instructor often straight up tries to counter any attempt to keep your plane aloft.

As for getting kicked out of a severely damaged plane, that only happens in Arcade Battles. Unless you get your pilot sniped or your plane 'burnt down', you can fly a plane that's entirely black with every bit that can be, missing, all the way to the ground.

The game has an in-built control AI called the Instructor. It basically flies the plane for you while in mouse-aim mode, and it's honestly pretty damn good at it... as long as your plane's undamaged. It unfortunately doesn't know much about compensating for things like lift imbalances on the wings or performing particularly advanced acrobatics, so it's not very useful if you've got someone on your tail and it's even less useful if you have a wing full of holes... or outright gone.

I thought the instructor only activated when you were about to mess up badly and lose control of the plane, you know, when it flashes red in some of the funkier and more stupid manouvers you can do. Or is that when it goes nope and switches off?

Arcade mode is surprisingly easy to play. You just have to keep the enemies shooting you busy following your piloting rather than shooting you while you fly to allies who are currently being chased. This lets you kill the plane(s) tailing your team and your team can deal with the one behind you. Because of this, my best match so far has been 7 kills/5 assists.

I haven't used dedicated bombers yet, but using bombs with fighters involves angling just low enough to see the indicator and flying low over the target.

In my experience when the instructor turns red it just means he is taking control over you, if you are stalling it will pitch down and 100% the engine for example. So while it is working all the time, translating mouse movements into actual control surface inputs, when it turns red it just means its doing what it things es better even if you tell him otherwise *usually to keep you from stalling*.

Thankfully, you can turn off some of the instructor's more annoying habits. It also can't override direct commands, like using keyboard buttons to control particular surfaces. It still makes it a hassle to fly a plane in a damaged state, though, because even if you take direct control of one of the control surfaces, the instructor's controlling all the others, and the instructor isn't very smart sometimes.

You can turn off some of the shit it does, but i dont think its true you can overide it with keyboard commands (and i use them a lot) Again the proof of it is trying to stall wich is imposible, try to pitch up at low speed and the plane will auto correct itself perfectly, its imposible to get into a spin or lose control if you are undamaged.
