Does anyone use face tracking for playing this? I downloaded FaceTrackNOIR and although it does track my face and all I'm having a hell of a hard time tweaking it to work properly. There doesn't appear to be any kind of instructions or tutorials on how to set it up properly and I've never done anything like this before so I'm just clicking on things blindly and trying to see what they do (not having much luck so far).
Does anyone happen to have a profile setup for War Thunder they wouldn't mind sharing?

NoIR is an utter hassle to get working right. I pretty much gave up on it. TrackIR manages to sell for its ridiculously high price because it actually works, and so far I haven't seen anything that can really challenge its market domination. If you have the money, go get it. If you don't, do as I do and press C.

Is that suposed to work like TrackIR? I honestly havent found a need for such a thing here, having external views and a radar, plus not using a joystick (wich means i can use the mouse to look around without losing too much control).

There are also open source TrackIR variants with DIY headsets, but i never tried them.

I used to use facetracknoir with FSX, it sort of worked well. I could control it pretty easily and look at almost anything in the cockpit fairly intuitively, but occasionally my camera would simply lose track of my face and I'd find myself looking down sharply at my right thigh. Didn't happen TOO often, but even occasionally is too much when you're in a flight sim.

I don't get TrackIR, am I turning my head but keeping my eyes on the screen?  That seems kind of strange.

That's pretty much how it works, but it's easy to get used to from what I've heard.

I really wish I had one, but I've managed to get by without it and I don't have the money to buy one so I make do.

Cthulhu: that's exactly what happens, but your head moves much less than the "real movement". The default configuration for Track IR exacerbates your head movement.

The great advantage over mouselook and the like is that if you move your mouse around too much, you will lose spatial awareness. By having your head pointed a certain way, you always know where you are looking at, and that extra input is essential in split-second decisions needed, for instance, when you are being boom'n'zoomed.

Also: immersion <3

A multi-monitor setup would probably make it infinitely better.

Or OculusRift *drools*, TrackIR its basically a must if you fly any type of real simulator, when you are in a cockpit and without markers on your enemies situational awareness its a greater asset than your plane.

Erkki from around here is easily one of the best pilots I know in IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 and he doesn't use TrackIR :) Just mouse. You don't NEED to have it, but I love it for immersion.

Predictably enough, FlyingDice ingame. Thank goodness it's all running smoothly for me now. Granted, I'm only a L3 for the US and CCCP at the moment, but it's actually fun to play, unlike a certain other dev's games.
