Shall we hold some kind of virtual meetup for those that can’t attend due to distance? Tinychat or similar?

I registered bay12meetup on tinychat.com. Somebody bring a webcam to the meetup in meatspace so you can stream video.

Wish I could attend, but alas, my own move-to-seattle date has been pushed out at least a year. Sad. :(

I will have my laptop, which arguably has a webcam. (So long as it's fairly bright out.)

FYI: Weekend of the 30th is when Sakuracon (Anime) is at the convention center in Seattle, and Norwescon (Sci-Fi) is in Seatac (just south of Seattle).

I would suggest meeting at Norwescon would be cool, but $50 admission and such might exclude people... but if you are coming to the area from out of town, you might want to hit up a major con... as I said, FYI.

No major events at Seattle Center itself that I know of.

Damn, that'll be a busy weekend to do this on. I don't think I can afford such pricey admission, unfortunately.

SUDDENLY I'M HERE

I've read on this thread a bit in the past but never really followed it, however, someone just pointed out that this will be tomorrow, and since I don't have anything to do ever since [life details], I figured why not. Even though I don't directly talk to any of you. Because it might be awesome I dunno. However, I may just go there, see the group, get intimidated by WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE, and chicken out.

I'll be bringing my laptop as well, for if anyone else's laptops brought along die, though it has shitty battery life (two hours, being generous), though I can bring along my charger too just in case. oh god what'll i carry everything in my laptop is like 15"

So has anyone actually managed to meet up? Barbarossa hasn't posted in here for a week but he never called it off or anything.

Ssso uh. Assloads of grassy areas around the space needle. Wasn't aware of that until a couple hours ago because I haven't been there in years. Assuming I'm not the only one who couldn't find anyone, maybe we could try again near somewhere more obvious, like that silver dome fountain thing? The one that lights up at night, iirc. And maybe people could say some key features about themselves or what they're wearing so they'll be easier to find and talk to (I saw lots of groups of people, but I didn't really wanna ask if they're who I was looking for unless I had good reason to assume they were).

I didn't end up going.  There didn't seem to be any concrete plans, and I'm not going to drive up to Seattle to maybe meet some people at an unspecified grassy area to do Armok knows what.  Sorry.

Well, it's not too late to try again. I've suggested a new meeting place; anyone got any activity ideas?

If anyone knows their way around that area well, they should mention so. I've lived here all my life, and can see the space needle from my room, but I sure as hell hardly know my way around it.

Also, for those who haven't been there, if you plan on buying anything, or at least snacks, be sure to bring plenty of money. I got some cotton candy and a kebab of  chocolate-and-peanut-covered strawberries, and each costed about $4-5. Same with some sort of frappe thing I got from Starbucks. Not completely sure what it was, since I just asked my mom what "that one thing" someone served us at their house once was.

We had this problem with the Melbourne meetup like four times. Plan concretely a week in advance.

Perhaps if we re-plan this, could it be on the other side of the border? I don't have a passport.

Sorry, I just got home from quite an adventure. Was on my way, got mugged in Tacoma, walked back to Olympia. So uh, I should be there next time. Sorry to everyone (if anyone) that did show up, I feel awful about planning this and then not even making it there.
