Always room in XCOM. Well, not always, but we'll try to hire aggressively.

I'd recommend using one of the dozen balance mods, as vanilla game is borked.
Any particular suggestions? A quick glance brought up mainly contemptuous reasoning and self-aggrandizing drivel. "Panicking soldiers no longer shoot allies," I mean really.

and all those big-piles-of-cash countries over there are easier to control that way.
Irony's starting with New Economy, which randomizes the funding.

Unknown to most but the insane and the mystics, Tarran is actually Earth itself, as Earth is sentient like that planet in Avatar. Originally Earth used names such as Terra on the internet, but to protect it's identity it changed letters, now becoming the Tarran you know today.
Quote from: Ze Spy
Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Dorf Soldier me, please.  And I vote we start in North America, since I'm pretty sure Air and Space applies to satellites (it does, doesn't it?), which is invaluable in the early game.

Sign me up. Europe also sounds like a practical starting place.

I am in, and think that we should go with Africa for them sweet, sweet monies.

Now watch New Economy make Africa an empty wasteland.

With New Economy I think Africa is the best decision. That lets wherever we go give decent money, since you can't count on anywhere being decent otherwise.

I hear Warspace is a good XCOM balance mod. It claims to shift focus from random swings of good/bad luck and toward tactical movement and play. Enemy troops scout and move around more, certain armors grant 2 inventory slots, and research is slowed a bit so facilities and staff are more important. I was looking to try it out, as well as Long War, which slows down the game a bit, and makes it more sandbox. It allows you to intercept Terror and Abduction UFOs as well, while also forcing you to choose which UFOs to intercept or clean up after, and which to ignore (panic penalties for missed missions are reduced, to compensate). It also shuffles soldier skills around, so they have more specialized roles, and rely more on teamwork. Both sounded interesting in different ways.

Anyway, I'll vote Asia, and would like a soldier with mighty mutton chops and a handlebar mustache, if you can.

I'll sign on to protect our Earth, of course.

I'll vote for an Africa or Asia start.  They have the best bonuses, and starting in either will allow us to keep the bonus even if we lose a nation on that continent.  South America would be a fun challenge run, though.

Update 0: Introductions

The XCOM project is now live, and as its Commander I have received a dossier on our current forces:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

As noted, four of them are already veterans of some minor, preliminary skirmishing. Operation Hidden Hymn, if you're curious. Rather fitting for such a dull, minor affair. Little grey aliens showed up in a truckyard, our guys came along and shot them. I'm sure our future efforts will be far more remarkable.

The only things of note here is that the soldier denoted by 'Sirus' has the honor of having our very first confirmed kill, while 'Tarran' has the dubious honor of being the first one injured by aliens. Well, the first XCOM agent, in either case.

Unfortunately, little skirmish aside, we're still waiting on proper confirmation and instruction from each of these soldiers before we can begin deploying them. Currently their test scores and a temporary moniker are all we have until they officially input their names and other vital data. Security thing or somesuch, I'd assume.

Meanwhile, I have also received a report of our base facilities:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We'll need to decide what and when to build down there. Hopefully the soldiers will have some recommendations for me.

Also of note, we have 308 credits and the ability to build medikits for 25 each. I'm told if we can acquire more engineers, the cost of producing each unit should decrease.

I've also started our researchers on Alien Biology, as I'd rather like to know what we're up against, exactly. Certainly, their weapon fragments and alloys are of interest also, but not so great a priority as understanding the creatures that wield them.

Other than that, not much to do until we get that confirmation data. Hopefully no aliens will strike before then...

Also good to know.

Africa, by 4-5 to 3 each for North America and Europe, by my count. Actually, Asia may have been bumped up to 2-3 by Culise's Africa/Asia vote.

This also means we have a satellite over Nigeria, and another one plus the capacity to launch it available.
