Excuse me, no one said "consider seeing your local religious authority."  Why are you assuming that a Christian therapist wouldn't have had to have had the same rigorous training as any other?

Apparently, it's impossible for religious doctors to keep themselves from evangelizing while working. >.>

If someone has added the tag "christian" to their practice, then they are using their worldview and theology to treat the ill. I'm sure MANY therapists are religious, and the good ones separate their medical practice from their faith.

It is really quite an easy concept.

. . . If they came from Ancient Greece, then why yes.  I would.

You seem to be under the impression that I am a Christian.  I am not.  But, simultaneously, I remember that mathematics and the sciences happily progressed for years under the purview of religious folk, and seem to be doing just fine.

I think you need to work on reading comprehension.

And I think your repost originally asked if I'd send someone needing psychiatric care to a Zeusologist, so I now look pretty stupid, yes.

Yeah, it did, but I decided against it. I was referring to you drawing the conclusion "religious people are incompetent" from me saying "anyone practicing medicine using their religion as a basis is incompetent and dangerous to their patients."

. . . This is where I think we're having problems.  Are you aware of things like "culturally Jewish" or "culturally Catholic?"  For example, I have a relationship with guilt, obligation, and responsibility that often seems alien to people who are not familiar with Catholicism.  I am not a Catholic.  I have not attended church, like, ever, and am unfamiliar with almost all of the Bible.  Hell, by Christian standards I am a flaming atheist.  But it helps me to have someone to work with who is already familiar with this framework, when I'm talking through problems.

Saying you're a Christian counselor is, to me, a similar thing as saying you're an LGBT counselor or a female counselor or a counselor who is a person of color.  It can be about culture and shared experience, rather than about the medicinal foundation of your practice.

I don't think you understand what effective therapy is.
