The United States government is trying to revive CISPA, a bill which would essentially allow the government to spy on people's online activities without a warrant. Please sign a petition asking them not to pass it.

You say that like they don't already do it.

Well this would officially legitimize it so you couldn't sue them when they get caught.

Furthermore it would also, in addition to the unwarranted government searches part, expand the number of ways that private businesses can legally spy on you.

Wasn't it rammed through by executive order?

The person supporting regenerating health, when asked why you can see when shot in the eye justified it as 'you put on an eyepatch'. When asked what happens when you are then shot in the other eye, he said that you put an eyepatch on that eye. When asked how you'd be able to see, he said that your first eye would have healed by then.

I remember reading somewhere that Obama had another separate plan. There weren't any more details on it though, so I have no idea if it's better (or worse) than VariousLettersPA.

I much prefer the ones where you don't even have to be American to tell people you dislike it.

Dammit, ZIP codes!
The closest ZIP code to you, oh Fapmaster Supreme, is 04785. Enjoy!

I remember reading somewhere that Obama had another separate plan. There weren't any more details on it though, so I have no idea if it's better (or worse) than VariousLettersPA.
There were various drafts published, but then the Senate attempted to get it's act together and it all fell through again. I don't know if any of the drafts are likely to actually be signed, but it's not impossible. However, if you are the sort who don't have time for all that, PCMag report the ACLU endorse Obama's executive order. Make of that what you will.

The general problem is that right now the American cybersecurity environment is a total clusterfuck of misapplied legislation trying to fill various gaps that are either perceived or actual risks. There were actually a number of serious bills (I wouldn't count the original House bill as one) that tried to address these threats as they saw fit.

I had two massive posts in the past that looked at the various aspects. This one tears down the actual contents of the two proposed Senate bills, neither of which ended up mattering. This one looked more at the executive order proposed by Obama and the various positives I saw compared to CISPA. I'd strongly recommend the first to look at the various legislative positions. I wouldn't expect them to have shifted much since last April.

All that said, I do think that Obama wants more than he could accomplish with this executive order, which is why he has held off on it. He may still be banking on a Senate bill.
