[Fniff]

"... I'll stand with you," said Anya. "I know when the storm is coming, Jack. I know it is true that having a good comrade by your side is a good way to weather such a thing. I'm not sure what storm you see, but it would take a true idiot to not suspect something."
Anya stood up. "However, the Russian way of life prevails; the boot is on your neck but at least it is not stamping yet," She held out her hand.

[Digital Hellhound]

Jack smiled. It was genuine, for once, perhaps. She stood up and shook the other woman's hand.

'I'm glad to hear it. I'll make sure you won't be blindsided by... the kinds of threats you're not prepared for,' she said. Was it her imagining, or had the restaurant staff all relaxed ever-so-slightly just now?

Conclude the meeting.

[Fniff]

The meeting has been concluded.
(... To everyone's great surprise.)

[Xantalos]

Merlin chuckled.
Certainly better than the condition I found you in.
He motions to the chair behind Johnny.
Please, sit. Would you care for anything to drink?

[Fniff]

Johnny sat down on the chair heavily.
"I've drunk enough. Who are you?"

[Xantalos]

Merlin shrugs.
Suit yourself. If you want anything, ask.
As for who I am, call me M for now. What I'm more interested in is you, sir. Who are you? And how did you end up in a pool of vomit on the floor of this place?

[Fniff]

"I'm Johnny. And it's the same way I end up anywhere."
Well, for a while it wasn't, he thought. He felt a burning sense of shame.

[Xantalos]

The silver caterpillar of Merlin's right eyebrow just up slightly.
And that would be?

[Fniff]

"By being drunk out of my ass," said Johnny. "What, do you think I walk around sober and go, hey, why don't I vomit and lie in it for the rest of the night on the cold hard concrete in the middle of fucking December? Give me a break."
He leans his head slightly into his overcoat, like a turtle, almost.

[Xantalos]

You'd be surprised at the number of things that cause people to do what you did.

Merlin leans forward slightly, the brim of his hat casting his eyes into slight shadow.

But I digress. Who were you involved with, Johnny?

[Fniff]

"Nobody," said Johnny bitterly. Nobody worth a damn, anyway,

[Xantalos]

Merlin shakes his head, looking firmly at Johnny.
I don't think that's true. Otherwise you wouldn't be here. Who was it?
His colourless eyes bore into Johnny's.

[Fniff]

Johnny stares right back at Merlin. He wasn't liking the way this guy was talking to him, but he had to admit; this was spooking him. He had to drop a bombshell to get a grip on the conversation.
"I'm with the guy who killed the mayor and got away with it. I'm wearing the coat he gave me."

[Xantalos]

If someone didn't know Merlin, they wouldn't have seen the slight pinching at the corners of his eyes that indicated controlled surprise. Of course with the spybug network he was aware of the mayor's assassination, but to hear that this man was formerly in cahoots with whoever did it? Interesting.
He blinked.
And who would that be?
He also casually glances over the coat to see if there are any enchantments upon it.

[Fniff]

"You don't need to know that," said Johnny. "What do you want from me?"
The coat wasn't enchanted, and neither were his stylish red leather gloves. The gloves had something about them that was tripping some of Merlin's subtler magic detectors. However, some of the subtle magic came from Johnny himself. He wasn't not magical: he was just the target of a spell. It didn't seem like a professional one. It was very odd. The difference between Merlin's spells and the spell cast on Johnny was like the difference between a classical symphony and a genius electronica album. Both pleasing but in different fashions.
