Okay, so let's say that a given deposit has two small artifacts.
One is at depth 10 and the next is at depth 12.
They both require you to start from depth 6 with the generator.

I know how to retrieve artifact A but am unsure of how to deal with artifact B.

I've never had a situation like this happen to me, but I'd turn the field on instantly and use the 10cm pick, because I wouldn't know about the second one yet.  Then if the second one didn't come out as a strange rock when I did that, I'd keep the field on and just use the 2cm pick.

Edit: Digging within clearance with the field on, but not to the exact depth gives you a strange rock, which you can use a welding torch on to release the artifact.  Digging to the exact depth is always better though, because the strange rocks don't always yield small artifacts, while getting to exact depth with the field on does.

Double Edit: This is if the two artifacts have the same material.  If not, I don't think you could get them both out.

What is this about artifacts and digging?
I have not heard of this before.

Xenoarch. It's Bay-only, playing as Spess Archeologist/Incredibly Anal-Retentive Miner (pick either). It also had an assload of absurdly tedious science to do on stuff, but I think they made it way easier now.

It used to be even easier way back.

I miss the days where you put stuff into an analyser and data came out, just like that.

Set up force field on strange rock. Use red pick a hundred times. Maybe you get something more than a bowl.

You mean before it was on the asteroid? Yeah, it was way easier then. But asteroid early on... ugh.

Miners and Xenoarch's should be working together.

I tried xenoarch, once.

I sat down to watchPLAY Xenoarch at 8:00.

At 8:03, my brain exploded.

Since all other people nicked the suits (on BS12), I went a-analyzing back when it was just added. I ended up working the spectroscopy machines so hard they overheated and made the room UNSAFE TO BREATHE BECAUSE OF THE HEAT.
