Yeah, the HOP and IA have PR related duties, despite how rarely it is done.  I don't really mind powerful science, although I can agree more often than not they are working against security distributing weapons to the crew.

If you don't collaborate with SEC, unless you have a very good reason like it being full of shitheads this round
Security is full of shitheads every round. I have never once successfully convinced the HoS or warden to help science out at all.

When I played R&D or robotics I'd generally ask over the public radio if anyone had any requests for mechs/bots/protolathe items etc.

I once had the warden show up and demand in ALL CAPS that I make new securitrons. I even made him one despite being a traitor that round. That happened once. That was the only time I van remember security ever requesting anything from me in research. It was actually more common for a HoP or captain to give me all-access and the go-ahead to distribute guns to the whole crew to deal with some threat.

Not to mention that they are sometimes paranoid nutjobs who'll start questioning you as if you're a criminal when you try to interact with them, even in a friendly way.

As R&D/robotics I don't want to spend a bunch of my round making stuff for security that they'll never use. If security want something from research they should ask for it.
I can understand why they don't though - security's starting gear is very strong and they really have no need for laser cannons or battlemechs under normal conditions. By the time an alien attack or whatever is serious enough that they want to arm up heavily, they are usually too busy to respond to R&D.

Although I never play security, I certainly wouldn't mind to have a personal securitron to drag around for everyone on the force and everyone to have a Ripley. Jokingly aside, maybe RDs and the HoS should interact more to upgrade their armory or something along those line.

I take offence to that. There have been, is, and always will be plenty of GOOD officers, though there ARE loads of shitty ones. It's hard to be security, though. Sometimes, lies are hard to see through, and then you arrest the wrong guy, and then suddenly he starts screaming about "Shitcurity".

Being HoS from a RP standpoint is LITERALLY HELL. Because you've got to organize a load of fuckheads with tasers, a forensics specialist with a handgun, a warden who LOVES to take from the armory, LAWYERS IN GENERAL, and the most horrible of all, the IAA. All while being called Shitcurity, being considered the worst thing in the universe, and basically being spit on every three seconds.

I try to sometimes work with R&D, but usually, with high pop rounds, I'm busy keeping the crew and my department in line.

It doesn't help that usually there's two to three officers at a time playing, and on top of that one of them WILL die in the first ten minutes from something so security is less Shitcurity more undermanned and unorganized.

I don't play security, but I believe that almost all dealings of false arrests leading to 'shitcurity' on the radio can be avoided if you simply as someone to follow you to the brig. It is when you stun someone in the middle of a horde of bystanders and drag them away do you look pretty bad. But security is always understaffed, I agree with that. Officers should ideally travel in pairs for increased safety and peaceful confrontations.

Maybe you are playing on a different server then I am. Because this is certainly not the case on Urist McStation. That's not to say it doesn't sometimes have shitheads, but in my experience more often then not it does not or the HoS gets a hold on them. And help science out? Does science need help? Maybe it's changed, I'm used to a science that doesn't need the help of any department but mining. Or maybe SEC doesn't trust you. I could see that, although I've personally not had issues working with them on this station as a engineer.

As R&D/robotics I don't want to spend a bunch of my round making stuff for security that they'll never use. If security want something from research they should ask for it.

Yeah. I guess I could see this being a issue. Certainly there is not a reason for SEC to have anything more then tasers most of the time. Although I doubt a HoS will actually turn down a battlemech offered to him. And I still think any scientist running around the station waving his gun/deadlymech around is shitty.

Agreed. It would be nice if you could peacefully take someone in, too bad that's not possible in SS13. A shame.

For me, around three-quarters of the time, being peacefully taken in results in death. No, seriously. Traitor security are like the nicest people around by some bizarre, ironic twist.

I don't really resist even in legitimate arrests, but that doesn't mean I don't get edgy when security's around.

Although, I will mention that I was caught hacking the QM's door for his stamp the other day and was let go by a set of understanding security force. I think they were all heads, though, and not the generic redshirts.

I'm calling all you scientists out. If you don't collaborate with SEC, unless you have a very good reason like it being full of shitheads this round, you are actually a bad scientist. The science equivalent of shitcurity. Go play Xenobiology or telescience or something that's totally meaningless you nerds.

Edit: I'd probably even fire the lot of you if I was the captain or RD and if that wouldn't get the admins mad at me.

Since when is Science supposed to be Security's bitch?

I've seen security take a combat mech on a token few occasions. The problem is that the mechs are too slow for officers, even the Gygax. They would only actually take one if they needed to crack a fortress (revolutions) or fight xenos. Usually it's the roboticists or the RD walking around in a Durand, and I find much joy in handing out deadly mechs to anyone who simply comes by as a traitor roboticist.
