I sense a lot of temp bans and drama over having a truth serum in game. While the idea might be fun to have it would require an admin to pour over logs and such to ensure the person isn't lieing. If you think about it if someone doesn't want to play along with what is essentially a rp gimmick what else could you do besides banning as a deterrent. Sure it might be "Purely for the sake of RP" but I feel it doesn't really add anything interesting to the game besides giving a ban enforced way for people to figure out who the traitor is, and rubbing people's egos when they give this serum to a traitor they caught.
You do have a point. Still, UMcS is pretty good about roleplay, so I'm not too worried about that. The issue is, like you said, meta-traitor hunting. I can't see any real way around it without causing more fuss.. If the rule was given flexibility or there was a way for people to not answer the question without interviewers being meta about it... I really don't want to create more work for the admins. They already work so hard.

If it worked on antags then it'd stop approaches like bluffing their way out of an arrest which could lead to less interesting RP for prisoners. Loyalty implants don't effect antags (except revs) and they're basically mind-control chips so having antags be immune might be an approach. The truth serum could also then become a tool for antags to find out things like where someone's hidden a theft target.

I could also see truth serum seriously dunking team antags. Starting cultists and headrevs don't always go for a subtle game and plenty of times I've been a subtle cultist only to hear over the radio that half the cult get caught 10 minutes into the round in some poorly-planned public attack under the eye of an asimov AI. It'd be pretty tough if they just got dragged to the brig and had "Truth Serum - who are the other cultists?" thrown in their face.

Okay, yeah, that's nasty. Bad guys need some way of resisting it OR it is made illegal, available to traitors AND/OR available to sec only under extreme circumstances (bad idea). Thoughts for this? Note: I'm not too attattched to this. I'll happily dump it and find something else to do should it prove infeasable to implement in any way, and it's been really helpful so far.

Diamonds are a non-issue. You'd be better off with them requiring a ground-up roundstart Shaft Miner. It'd make it take longer to make, not make it harder to make.

We are doomed. It's just that whatever is going to kill us all just happens to be, from a scientific standpoint, pretty frickin' awesome.

The issue is convincing the shaft miners to give you diamonds.

Do you really think any shaft miner would give Medbay diamonds and incur the wrath of the durand armed league of science?

Yes. Although as a frequent R&D player the thought of chemistry grinding diamonds fills me with rage. Presumably the amount you get per diamond sheet would need to be balanced.
Also, let traitors spend TCs on some kind of resistance implant or something so they can come up with needlessly complex plans that revolve around getting arrested and then fooling security into thinking their target is actually an evil murderer.

Edit: apparently there's a mining update coming soon that will make it harder to get rare materials.

inb4 next pull requires ground up roundstart shaft miner for cool stuffz.

I can make a drill for mining in less then 45 seconds as scientist/RD so its not that bad if miners had to start from nothing. Science can even make mesons too.

Half the mesons on station, maybe more, are in the various rooms in maintenance.
