That was madness. By the time I joined I think things were already pretty screwed up... A meteor had apparently hit atmos, something had breached xeno and all along the way to Toxins Keith was trudging through pools of blood and a brain lying in the hall.
Anyway, I ended up going to work anyway, just practicing my bomb-making skills as usual, and I fired out a couple into the test range, blowing most of it up. Meanwhile some crazy shit was going down on the rest of the ship, but I wasn't really involved and I didn't really WANT to be. Something about some people taking over cargo and trying to secede from the rest of the station? It was pretty damn chaotic, but I was safe in my lab, you know, making bombs...
Until I forgot to close the output on the canister of super-heated plasma when I removed the tank I was filling. That was a serious derp moment. At first, I thought I could still salvage the situation, I tried to quickly close it, but the heat was too intense and I had to flee when I burst into flames.
I ran out into the main Science division, went and grabbed a firesuit, extinguisher and gasmask, but it wasn't enough to get back to toxins. I think the mech and captain were planning on doing something to help, but they never showed up... by the time I'd got internals on, tracked down a crowbar to open firelocks, and had to bust my way through the reinforced window to get into toxins... there WAS no toxins left to save.
So that was kindof a downer. At least noone died, but I still felt kinda silly. The main upshot of it was that I was driven out from the safety of my lab and thrust into the madness that had overtaken the rest of the station. The RD dragged me into the Robotics lab so a medibot could patch me up, gave me a pair of clown shoes for some reason and told me to "watch" R&D.
That wasn't really specific enough, seeing as I had no idea what had been going on during the round.
So I'm sitting in there, looking around, remarking about the impressive extent of research over comms, when the captain comes in. I don't see anything wrong about that, so I just chat to him as he uses the consoles and ask just
why he needs an SMG.
He ended up giving that to me and making some other weapons, just as Amir, the RD, shows up at the window/counter and demands to know what was going on and why I was giving the captain weapons.
I/Keith was pretty dang confused here, there was a bit of an argument as I backed into a corner and frantically explained that I hadn't done anything, it was all the captain's doing, and then Amir marches in and wipes all the research to prevent the captain from getting any more weapons.
So then, thoroughly traumatized, I just stayed in a corner as the captain messed around in there for a while longer, joined briefly by the combat mech, then they both left and I stayed huddled in there for a long time.
Alexandra Dmitri, a fellow scientist, joined the station and briefly came by the window, and I had the awkward job of explaining that there was hardly any science sector left. She took a power cell, left, and a while after that a power cell plunged me completely into darkness save my flashlight.
Comms were pretty quiet, and so I just stayed there until eventually, finally, the shuttle was called.
Then I went carefully out, still clad in firesuit with internals on, and the captain's submachine gun in hand just in case.
I waited in the escape arm until people started showing up- notably Amir, dragging the straightjacketed and handcuffed Captain.
Naturally, Keith was simultaneously bewildered, frightened and horrified by this situation, which he was sure would lead to him getting a pay dock, if not worse. I just stayed backed into a corner with gun & toolbox in hand, watching the goings-on nervously as the two main figures of the conflict, the RD and the Captain, argued bitterly about who Centcomm would be more pissed at.
Eventually Amir noticed how increasingly on-edge Keith was becoming, and warned him not to fire his 'carbine'. I'd just started to explain that it was, in fact, not a carbine but a submachine gun, when Alexandra came up to disarm me.
Of course, since I had the toolbox in my active hand, that was all she managed to grab at first- and she didn't get another chance, as I/Keith panicked, riddled her with a few bullets and fled screaming out of the escape arm, firing a couple more shots behind me.
Keith burst into tears, screamed into the radio "WHY?! WHY DID YOU MAKE ME DO THAT?", tore off his helmet and in his panic tried to shoot himself. ...Fortunately, this was stopped short by the fact that the code doesn't allow for that, and he just bumped himself on the head with the gun instead.
I ended up dropping the gun and running back to the shuttle, huddling in one corner and pleading with the others (including Alexandra, who wasn't badly hurt) to forgive me as they loaded the shuttle.
Then Mark Barnes (can't remember who he actually was) tazed me, grabbed me and shoved me in a sleeper as I begged for mercy.
And then the shuttle left. Jeez, that was a crazy, fun round, even if I wasn't involved in the battle for cargo.
Mark Barnes [145.9] says, "Don't launc hit early"
Keith Tilton says, "I didn't m-mean to..."
Mark Barnes [145.9] says, "We have plenty of time"
Mark Barnes fires the energy gun!
Keith Tilton is hit by the electrode in the chest!
Keith Tilton stammers, "Ohg-god-d-d!"
Amir Hardie blinds Seamus Scherer with the flash!
Mark Barnes has grabbed Keith Tilton passively!
Keith Tilton stammers, "D-D-D-Don-n't-t-t h-hur-r-rt-t-t me!"
Mark Barnes starts putting Keith Tilton into the sleeper.
You feel cool air surround you. You go numb as your senses turn inward.
Keith Tilton stammers, "I n-nev-ver-r wat-ted-d t-th-h-his-s-s!"
Keith Tilton cries uncontrollably.
Keith Tilton says, "...I am SO gonna get pay docked..."
... You can almost hear someone talking ...
