Is there some reason the sandbox panel can't have functionality like the admins' 'spawn' verb? That just pops up a text box that will search through all atoms for the string you enter, so you can type in 'canister' and then it will present you with a list of all the canisters to choose from.

That search takes awhile when I do a local hosting. 10 people doing that at once? Who knows what would happen.

but... but... that should be done clientside. it shouldnt impact server performance.

It is. The sheer amount of items causes your game to freeze for a little bit when you type in one letter.

Hence why Glloyd-events are sometimes a bit laggy.

He tries to type in, 'Hivebot', we wait, wondering if something exploded... Hivebots spawn, we wait a little longer thinking, "Oh god, that's a huge fucking bomb. I wonder where it hi-HIVEBOTS OH FU- GIMME THE FIRE AXE"

Well, BYOND actually works as a program for the simple fact that EVERYTHING is done server-side. The entire point of BYOND is that you can play every game with the same client. If BYOND didn't work the way it does, we would have to download a new SS13 client every few days when an update comes out.

Also, sandbox panel closes after spawning? RAAAH. Dear god, this is going to be annoying. Any chance of removing this? (Altough I'm not sure if it's worth it, considering that we want to stay pretty close to /tg/)

Yes, it's absurdly easy to disable: /tg/ is not stupid with changes like that, so it's a matter of commenting/uncommenting a new config option.
