I'm not sure why they want to rename them to voidsuits, but that change (should) come with a giant pile of additions to hardsuits to make them more flexible and more interesting. The basic idea is to extend the ninja suit's features to all hardsuits (obviously not with the same features, just the same idea of having add-ons and activated abilities)

We might, or we will in the update. It's not normally used, just as a non-cuffed but unable to use hands attack, IIRC. And speaking of, Bay's working on some pretty major changes to how combat plays out - still good ol' clickspam, but it takes account of attacker's and defender's intent to create some counterplay.

Also, character-skill based combat flavor texts, might or might not get removed >_>

Correction: some people use them, but that's either because the only ever stick to one job or for stupid reasons.

If they're not RPing a job that actually uses those skills, definitively. I used to have primarily engineering-related skills set, but most of the time I didn't even go near engineering.

Except the only person who will ever see them is yourself, and you probably could gauge what a character playing a job X could and couldn't do faster than it takes to check your skills.
