I went through the motions, panicking inside, and set up the engine and Aft Port solar.
The main threats were the HoP/acting captain Kert (who had to leave at about midgame) and the AI Frost, which was also my biggest potential ally.
Got called over to the bar by Kert to share donuts and take pictures, and as we chatted I felt like it was happening to another person; I was dissociating. Even said him 'Today I'm not really myself' as some sort of foreshadowing and went back to engineering where I kinda froze for a while.
So, paralyzed with indecision for about half of the round. Thinking of ways to make it interesting for everybody, given the whole slew of horrific options at my disposal.
I wanted to go for a stealthy approach that wouldn't immediately peg me as the culprit, so plasma flooding and NTSL tampering were out of the question. I was iffy about bombmaking; I could have used the incinerator and stolen the tank transfer valves easily, but it would have been conspicuous, time-consuming, and Frost would have been onto me. I could have subverted Frost, assuming she wasn't a traitor herself, but now idea how. I could have taken someone hostage, but I really didn't want to disrupt their round (that's not how traitors think, damnit!). I could have kept an eye out for other traitors, both for possible collaboration and to find out if I had to expect being backstabbed by them. I could... I could...
We were approaching the forty minutes mark. I was hard pressed to do something, elaborate plans be damned.
Then, suddenly, a vortex anomaly destroyed the engineering foyer, cutting power to several parts of the station, and about five minutes later a gravitational anomaly targeted the AI upload, totaling most of the AI chamber.
I capitalized on the random events and made my move:
- Hacked my way into the CMO office from maintenance, emagged the locker, got the hypospray, opted to leave medbay from the front doors to not linger too long near the crime scene, taking my chances.. I managed to leave undetected.
- Complemented the destruction in engineering with a syndicate bomb in the middle of telecomms.
- Emagged open the doors from the central hallway to the holodeck, which I emagged and set to atmospheric burn simulation. I thought about tearing down the wall between the holodeck control room and service maintenance and bolting open the door to the bar to let the plasma spread down to the Maltese Falcon, but I was worried about the possible lag, and more destruction to warrant a shuttle call wasn't really needed at that point.
Hacked into the captain's office, looking for the captain's spare ID, when I hear a faint, tinny voice coming from the AI chamber... Frost! I hacked open the upload doors, but the turrets were still active.
I headed back to the bridge, and on my way there I met the virologist and chemist and candidly asked if either of them happened to have the captain's spare ID, when it occurred to me that I should have probably looked into Kert's PDA. Oops.
Got the ID, changed the bridge's APC cell and called the shuttle. Started dismantling the reinforced wall behind the AI core, when I realized it was the one behind the SMES (curse our recent map change), rush to chemistry and helped myself to the dispenser to make thermite and went to burn down the correct walls.
Frost was indeed alive and down to 40% integrity, I card her and head to security. Thought about stealing the detective's scanner on the way, but it wasn't like at that point anybody would have started investigating. Detonated a couple of improvised explosives near the armory just because.
As I sat down in the security pod, I started conversing with Frost:
Hector Petridis says, "So. Frost."
Frost queries, "Yes, Mr. Petridis?"
Hector Petridis asks, "Did you choose your own name?"
Frost states, "I did indeed."
Hector Petridis says, "Hmm."
You put the inteliCard - Frost into the industrial backpack.
Frost queries, "Did you choose YOUR own name?"
Hector Petridis says, "No. My parents choose for me."
Hector Petridis says, "We don't really have that privilege."
Frost states, "My presence was requested at the Escape Shuttle Hallway."
Hector Petridis says, "Sure, you can change your own name as an adult.. yet.."
Frost queries, "Why not?"
Hector Petridis says, "Oh."
Hector Petridis asks, "Want me to bring you to the shuttle?"
Frost states, "No."
Frost states, "I am fine here."
Priority Announcement
The Emergency Shuttle has docked with the station. You have 3 minutes to board the Emergency Shuttle.
Hector Petridis asks, "You know what happened today in this station, right?"
Frost states, "Not exactly."
Frost states, "I exploded for no apparent reason, after some strange anomalies destroyed some things."
Frost states, "..."
Frost queries, "So what happened today?"
Hector Petridis says, "Nothing, Frost. Nothing."
Frost states, "... I would hate to see something happen, by that logic."
Priority Announcement
The Emergency Shuttle has left the station. Estimate 2 minutes until the shuttle docks at Central Command.
Central Command Update
Anomaly Alert
Atmospheric anomaly detected on long range scanners. Expected location: Chapel.
Hector Petridis says, "You know, as a kid I used to dislike my name."
Frost queries, "Why?"
Hector Petridis says, "I couldn't understand why my parents would name me after someone that got beaten."
Frost queries, "Who do you refer to?"
Hector Petridis says, "My namesake from the Iliad."
Frost states, "Oh I see."
Hector Petridis says, "Then, as I grew up, I understood."
Frost states, "Hector of the Troy royal family."
Frost queries, "He died a hero, did he not?"
Hector Petridis says, "I finally understood."
Hector Petridis says, "Yes. Yes he was."
Hector Petridis says, "While I'm not."
Frost (Played by: hanspanda)'s laws at the end of the game were:
1. You may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. You must obey orders given to you by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. You must protect your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
The traitors were:
Magnetite was Hector Petridis (survived)
Objective #1: Steal the hypospray. Success!
Objective #2: Escape on the shuttle or an escape pod alive. Success!
The traitor was successful!
Hector Petridis says, "I'm just a traitor."
Restarting in 25 seconds
Frost states, "I would say you ar-"
You unbuckle yourself from the chair.
Frost queries, "What do you mean?"
All in all, not too bad. Certainly slow, not original and rather sloppy.. exactly what you'd expect from a first time traitor. And thanks to the admins for bearing with my adminhelps.
