Though it's been mentioned from time to time elsewhere, and there have been the occasional threads on this amazing game, there doesn't seem to be an active thread. So, check it out!

TA: Spring, or just Spring, is an open RTS engine that is used for a number of varied games- most familiar is the Total Annihilation clone Balanced Annihilation. Possibly more popular is the highly polished Zero-K. A rather unique game made with this system is Kernel Panic, which is basically tron wars.

In addition, the powerful and flexible game engine has several rarely-seen features like terrain deformation and first-person unit control.

So, check it out! It needs more online players!

Used to play a lot, stuck with BA. Would probably play more, 'cept no-one does.

There was talk about organizing a B12 play session a while back. Every evening I generally see a couple dozen people, total, online playing on various servers.

I found the same problem. I was hoping to find some interest on the B12 forums...

I liked NOTA better than the Zero-K, personally.

Yeah, I'm quite fond of spring, and Total Annihilation and its descendants in general. As quite fond as I am quite terrible at actually playing them. Utter shite at juggling the economic thing at the same time as doing the combat bitsies, and not terribly impressive when I focus in on either one regardless. But damn, is the game fun to watch sometimes. Fun enough to play, too, I'm just a handicap for whoever's team I'm on :P

Be nice if there was an anti-economy mod or somethin', I think. Also, one day, I will play a few rounds of the Gundam mod with an actual human.

... or a turn-based riff on the TA/Spring ethos. I'd play the shit out of that, I think.

I play a lot of Zero-k - only partially because it is the best one with regular opponents, but if people want to get together and play the less-populous games I would be interested in that.  NOTA is a good one, and Spring 1944 (WW2 spring mod) is also.

Kernel Panic is economyless; units are produced constantly from the resource structures.

On the topic of "other open-source RTS", does anyone play 0ad?  It looks interesting, but I have never gotten around to trying it.

Total Annihilation was one of the first RTS' I ever played, so making the jump to Spring was easy for me.  I've shelved it for a while though; but personally, I'm waiting for Planetary Annihilation these days. Mwhahahaha.

Anyone want to get together and play some Spring this weekend?

I loved Spring, especially Balanced Annihilation. It was the first RTS I ever played multiplayer. Taught me everything I know about the genre.

I'd definitely would be up for some games, but it'll have to be next weekend for me.

I fiddled with 0ad not long ago.... and it has issues.  Maybe even volumes.  It's in a sorta-playable state, but there's a lot of things that need polish/de-glitching/finishing.  It didn't crash on me, so that's something at least.

How about 5 GMT today?  Pretty much any time today works for me, though.
