Heading onwards, you find yoursleves on the brink of a large excavated chamber, in which hunch numerous kobolds. Whether they noticed you enter is irrelevant, as smoke begins to issue from the ground (10+8+4), choking those who stand there. Not quite the volcano you had hoped, but enough to keep you from being instantly swarmed and hence allow you to get the lay of the land.

Shield bash kobold 5 then bring my bastard down on its skull like a shovel, intercept any kobolds that attempt to get to my teammates and strike at their legs with the sharp sides of my sword

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

arc around 7 and try for a stab at the back legs, see if the smoke offers any cover

Sir Lunnar and Akane both charge the nearest kobold (15+5/5v13+1). The kobold jumps out of the path of Akane only to be met by an axe blade hurtling towards its neck. Meanwhile, Rothe erupts from the smoke, his shield colliding with the kobold on the other side and knocking it prone (6+3+3v4+1), only for it to roll out of the way as he slams his sword down where it lay (2+3+3v18-3), dissapearing into the smoke.
 Charles Elfblood then throws an ice bolt at the nearest still living kobold (7+5v17+1). The kobold dodges out of the way, but is met by the butt of Kims staff(1+3+3v4+1), staggering it. Kris emerges out of the smoke behind it, unseen, (13+4+1+1v12-2) and plunges one of his daggers into its back as kims snake tail clamps its fangs around its throat.
 All the while, Archmage Joe has been preparing a spell - as he unleashes it (16+4+8) a bottomless crevase spreads slowly from his feet across the room, accompanied by (8+1/17+1/15+1/17+1/12-3) 2 screams as their owners are swallowed by the chasm, and the other kobolds, taken by surprise, are put off guard.
