Ive found my paragon
« on: February 18, 2013, 10:43:40 pm »

So this just happened and I had to post about it, I am relatively new to dwarf fortress this  is my third fort after doing the incredible noob guide to dwarf fortress and things ae going pretty smooth only a few trogs here a troll there not too bad then  "The mountain titan Oso has come! A gigantic Scale cicada. It has a curling trunk and it moves deliberate Its scales are small and overlapping beware its fire" appears in my messages my heart sinks and I fear my doom I bunker down get all civilians underground and prepare for the onslaught I have 30 men in leather or cloth with weapons from a crossbow to silver weapons (as i could not find any iron) when i spot two militia dwarves outside when the titan arrived it looked like they were getting water the first one, a recruit, charges and burns in a cloud of flame he never stood a chance. Then the second dwarf (An axe dwarf with a silver axe training axe and wooden shield) seeing this titan at the mouth of the fortress charges and I see flame engulf him I sigh mournful of the loss of two warriors then from the smoke comes sprinting the dwarf charges the titan! I was surprised but didnt expect him to last long at all. Then the fight of a lifetime ensues  the titan breaths fire and hurls bolts or fire all blocked and the dwarf hacks at the thing hitting it over and over at first only denting then it chips its wings tearing tendons. The fight goes on the dwarf unharmed and I am in utter shock at this point as he bring the titan to the ground and BITES ITS HEAD and keeps going punching kicking and hacking. This battle is still in progress but heres some pics of the fight http://s1303.beta.photobucket.com/user/Philip_Kring/media/Paragon_zpsfa59370f.png.html?sort=3&o=0 http://s1303.beta.photobucket.com/user/Philip_Kring/media/badassmofo_zpsb672f997.png.html?sort=3&o=1

I'm certainly in awe.

And thus, "The running of the goblins" became an annual tradition and the first dwarven contraceptive.

No matter what a shield is made of, it can block anything.

Presumably that first dwarf didn't have a shield as well or they'd both be alive and mutilating the titan.

thats odd because i know a few of my dwarves have shields maybe a cloud of fire is unblockable or there is a high chance of it failing

We all have our champion. For me, the name Tosid Beastmountain will forever live on. Tosid, the lowly sword-wielding Peasant who fended off a Forgotten Beast alone. He suffered major injuries but sprang from his hospital bed to take on a Giant Olm only days later.

Is there anything on the ground that could catch fire?

Attacks can be blocked, but not a grassfire.

No ground floor i guess there is a chance to block...the titan was brought down but at the cost of my highest train men a wood bolt that bruised its brain killed it

Mine would be my former hunter (wildlife is pretty much extinct at this point :P) and current militia commander. He got so good with the crossbow by sniping ostriches and rhinos that by now he has oneshotted...
  • A goblin lasher squad leader. The rest of the ambush promptly broke and ran.
  • A giant undulating spider-thing that came up from the caverns.
  • A batman necromancer that was flying over my walls. One shot stunned the guy...and he dropped 6 z-levels to go splat into my moat. Still not done cleaning all the bits away
  • The mason/axeman who went berserk after failing to find any clear glass (why do they always ask for that? I can't make it, and they're using it up faster than I can buy it from the caravans...).
Just calmly walks up to the target, shoots...end of problem. I do so love legendary weapon skills :D.

I was going to respond to the OP, but then I read MattStriker's comment and the words "batman necromancer" drifted across my synapses.

The imagery is more than my poor brain can handle.  :o

Oh the greatness of internet, it truly have it all.

This one looks more like a gang rape scene than a zombie one, I put it here because it's funny.

I'm curious as to how a tank would evolve. Would it climb out of the primordial ooze wiggling it's track-nubs, feeding on smaller jeeps before crawling onto the shore having evolved proper treds?

"paragon"  man i loved dragon age origins.  i played dwarf commoner.. was a great game.

my "paragon" would have to be Besmar Pagetrades the Faction of Trumpets.  to this day, his is the only name i remember out of all my fortresses.  200 kills, majority of them goblins, some FB's, two dragons, a roc, some titans.  elves.

Though he fell to Oso the moutain titan he shall forever be remembered in legend for all of time to show our gratitude a tomb was erected in his honor in the finest of materials and the deepest care for our fallen hero http://s1303.beta.photobucket.com/user/Philip_Kring/media/Tomb_zpsb2aeaddd.png.html?sort=3&o=0
