The What would Bay12 think of thread
« on: February 18, 2013, 08:12:55 pm »

Hi guys, i thought it would be cool if people could come here and ask what other people would think of something, wether its somethign they are doing, an opinion or a choice they made. Whatever it is.
Keep Civil! And try to keep every question answered!

What would you guys think of a text based RPG set in a Threads style scenario, as in a nuclear attack on a city, no mutants, no punks on bikes shooting shit, just plain simulation, to the point where you can use a nuclear survival manual as a manual for the game.

What would you guys think if that was made as a tabletop RPG instead, maybe hosted on in the forum games section?

We have 6 person chess, your chess is inferior.

How many ways of killing things in a single room is enough?

Chess is cool, but I really want to learn Go.

I'd certainly find it fairly interesting, although I'd wonder what time scale would work best for it. Without any punks or mutants, than it might have to be fairly long in scope, and that tends to take some of the fun out of apocalyptic survival, at least in my mind.

Go is awesome, completely different, and easier to learn.

Chess is pretty fun too though.

... how does six person chess work? I'm currently imagining a chessboard with 6* the number of squares and pieces and... I guess six different colors? Turns go, what, clockwise from white?

Incidentally, simultaneous turn chess? Someone has to have done a chess program that does that. Players make their moves, submit turn, it acts out. Probably have to muck with the rules a fair bit to get things to work, but... whatever.

The forum game for six-person chess.

Simultaneous turn chess does sound fun. Also, we should start a game of Go.

I dunno, it looks overly complex for no reason, guys. We need to reevaluate.

Go is awesome, completely different, and easier to learn.
Learning the rules is easy, I give you that.

Learning to be good at Go, however, is an entirely different thing. Let's see if I can find a Go thread in the Other Games forum.

EDIT: Found a tiny old thread last posted to in 2009, so if enough people are interested in learning Go, I'll just make a new thread.

I wanted it to be like day to day survival. And of course there would be the millitary being a greedy bunch of opressive fucks once things start getting desperate enough, and people with horrible burnt faces and missing limbs, desperately trying to gnaw through your back door would replace the mutants for good, just that they are weaklings instead. What i wanted to was to simulate each citizens mind wich then based on some psychological factors would act accordingly, thus wether it means sitting in a corner and crying yourself to death or getting out and fixing shit or wether they are going to rip shit out of dead peoples hands. Im just saying that there wont be super mutants, but if the RNG allows for it, looter gangs could form(though it would be likely they would collapse again due to internal pressure and pecking order)

It would include a rather deep improvisation system, so you could go and collect plastic backs, cut em into sheets and tape them together to form a larger surface, wich you could then make a tent of. If you are desperate enough, you could even do that with the remains of people and animals!

If you manage to survive long enough(very unlikely), a new world would dawn, in a sort of dark medival age. If the simulated elder citizens were killed off, there might not even be anybody capable of reading!

So uhm, there wont be any zombies or mutants, but rather alot of desperate, fragile, disease infected, irradiated victims of a nuclear attack, that arent harder to kill than any civillian.

Go is really easy.
But newbie Go and advanced Go are like two different games.
