Isn't the whole Chiropractic thing a pseudo-science?

Not insofar as you can fix back problems. The guys who tout it as a miracle cure to everything else, though, are quacks.

The "fixing back problems" bit is also rather questionable in itself, as far as evidence is concerned.

The thing about many kinds of back pain is that the problem isn't always spine-related. Chiropractors don't necessarily 'fix' the spine, they release muscles, tendons, etc that a bad spine puts unnecessary pressure on.

The best way to fix your spine yourself is to keep your back straight. Force yourself to walk upright, to sit straight while on the computer, little things like that. Not only will it strengthen your spine and decrease back pain, it'll also exercise your lower back muscles, which reduces pain and makes standing, sitting and lifting much, much easier over time.

Go to a physiotherapist to get instructions on what exercises to do to strengthen your back muscles.
