Re: The Age of Fire: A Modern Godhood Game (Two Years Running!)
« Reply #1815 on: February 01, 2016, 03:54:44 pm »

On the twenty first of Feburary, we began the Age of Fire. We explored crime and law, intrigue and backstabbing, murder and melancholia, robots and talking severed heads.

Don't feel guilty. This has been the curse of Godhoods since the beginning. I would say all forum games suffer it. Schedules change. Lives move on. Time runs out. In the end, it is only words on the Internet. Yet it has brought much joy to my life, and I hope yours too. It would be a shame for it to die with a whimper rather than a bang.

But it doesn't have to end that way.

You see, I have a plan. I will rush you to the end game; the game will be done by the end of this month. It will require me to declare my gamemaster State of Emergency powers. I may need to take control of your characters. You will still have choices: choices that will change the outcome of the game, your character's journeys, and the world of the city.

All you must do is give me guidelines on how your characters will behave, choose what path they take, and perhaps write a conclusion that fits the character you have created and inhabited for so many years.

This may only be a stupid internet roleplay for nerdy jerks. My writing in this may be overlong, overwritten, and at times absurd... But dammut, we must finish what we started!

Ladies and gentlemen, here is a phrase I never thought I could say. And I can say it; we've never been so close to it.

The end of the Age of Fire is nigh.

Misc things.
The next post is going to describe an emergency. A very bad one: a lot of things are going to boil over. Your character will be tested and may lose everything they've worked for. I need to know a few things.
A. Will your character be at Jack's casino meeting?

Please respond as soon as you can if you see this.
B. If they think everything's going to come to an end, what will thy do? Fight till the end? Retreat and protect what they can? Give up and run?
C. Are you okay with them being under my limited control? I'll try to stay in character and never make a serious choice for you. Would you prefer writing them yourself?

As you know, Merlin's going to be at the Omega - he'll have scoped it out extensively beforehand, and be ready to teleport/retreat back to the shop, which can be any midsize building at his will, at any time.

If Merlin comes to the conclusion that the world's irreversibly coming to an end, he'd do the following:
-gather as many magical creatures as he can, be they alive, dead, or fossilized.
-do a search for good-hearted people via the spy bug network and get them into the mansion, though this'd be limited by time constraints.
-bug out of the universe by forming the mansion into a full-on pocket dimension and detaching it from the universe, using the shop as a method of interfacing with other universes if need be. Retreat with the aim of eventually figuring out how to kill or stop whatever drove him out of his home.

I'm alright with you taking partial control of Merlin, so long as I get input on major choices and such, which you've already said you'd do, so it's all good by me.

I'm all for this. I won't really have time to write posts here in the army, so take as much control as you'd like.

A. Uh, yeah.
B. Jack likes this world. She'd prefer it to survive, damaged or not. Then again, she won't die with it. Jack will happily rule an empire in the ashes, but if that can't happen, she'll get the hell out with her things, including companions and preferably the casino too. If it ends up adrift on some strange astral plane, so be it.
C. I'll probs find the time to write big, important posts, but you're free to mainly control her.

A. I can't remember whether I planned to or not.
B. Escape
C. Sure. Full control too, if needed.

Interesting! Thanks for replying, everyone. I'll wait for the remainder to post, that is Alchemist, Caesar, and Ragnarok whose name is particularly appropriate. If they don't post, I'll message them.

I would love to do a second game (and plan to, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it), if only to prove I learned from the many mistakes of this game.

Along with its successes, of course. :P

Point it out to me if you do. I find it a sad thing I found this game far too late to join.

Also I'm definitely interested in another iteration of this - improved, of course, but there's lessons to be learned in everything.

If you want feedback on the game, I'll be happy to give some. A player's perspective might be useful?

A. Red will be there.
B. Red considers himself beyond mortality: he's become an idea and represents humanity's potential (or so he believes). He will do anything to secure its continued existence in whatever form he can imagine. That said, he will easily sacrifice those who he deems unworthy or overly selfish, especially those who have not the mental strength to overcome their weaknesses: they have no place in the world he strives to create. He will fight for those who will fight for each other.
C. Would it annoy you if I asked you to send me PMs when Red should act? I do prefer writing him myself (though I don't doubt that you'd do a good job at writing as him).

Regardless of where things go, you've done a better job as a Godhood host than I ever have. I'd like to see your work come to its fruition.

Because it wouldn't be Age of Fire without procrastination resulting in a post being late!

Don't worry, we are finishing this. Just change my prediction from "game will be finished in a month" to "post will be posted by the end of the month". It still needs to be vetted by a few members who feature heavily in it.

For now, here's a sneak peek.

Best thing?
This isn't even the biggest twist of the update.

This thing is still going. Wow. Just...
Wot.
Good luck with the finishing of the game. And reserve me a spot next time you run a game, please. Whatever you choose. Cause I'm sure it'll be epic.
