Can people stay dead in adv mode?

I've been trying to pillage a town that has pretty much every civilization in adventurer mode. But when ever I kill someone, they come back when I leave the map, even when their corpse is right under them. Is there anyway to make it so non-historical figures, such as towns folk stay dead?
