Found an interesting text-adventure styled game today, and figured it be more suited to discuss on this forum. Here's an excerpt from the website about the game.

"Depression Quest is an interactive fiction game where you play as someone living with depression. You are given a series of everyday life events and have to attempt to manage your illness, relationships, job, and possible treatment. This game aims to show other sufferers of depression that they are not alone in their feelings, and to illustrate to people who may not understand the illness the depths of what it can do to people."

There are five different endings, and around 150 unique scenarios in the game. You can make decisions that will affect your depression, and some options may be removed according to your level of depression. Personally I found that the game portrayed depression pretty well. Personally, being someone who's suffered from depression for a long time this hits a bit too close to home.

But anyways, discuss the game, discuss depression, etc.

Do you have a link to it? Granted, I likely won't play it very much. Discussing the thoughts I have on my character's issues within a game which I am playing as a way to focus my contemplation of my own issues is just a tad too much meta for a Saturday night.

IMO, Rat Chaos contained a better depiction of depression.

I knew my minor psychological knowledge would come in handy some day. I think I got a moderately good ending, but without that foreknowledge or acting like I would have in these situations it probably would have ended badly.

I did encounter a bug, though, as I got a scenario with medication side-effects despite rejecting medication wholesale. I'm not sure if it is a typo or a very disturbing feature, but I also got a line where the word "ten" (I presume that's what it was.) was replaced with "dead".

It's interesting, and from what I know it portrays the psychology of depression accurately enough. I like how the "just be happy" options that are usually in option one are always not available unless you're at minimum depression, and even then will mostly increase your depression.

The music and its alternation based on your stats are nice too, if not a little...well, depressing.

Wow. Just to see what happened I chose badly a few times. Then, spiral of death deeper and deeper into depression. That was... interesting, if not enjoyable. Just to leave something else here, Depression Comix is also very interesting.

I thought I could win, but despite trying my best I couldn't. This is fitting.

This game gave me a kick in the ass, and i'm happy it did.

edit: got a good ending I think... wow.  So that's why a major portion of my life was so screwed up.
