It's a weird double standard. I guess people just view it as a piece of skin so they underplay the health impacts.

Why is this thread a thing? What is gained out of saying "Oh yeah, your parents' decision was a bad one"? I for one am perfectly fine with my parents' choice. At best this thread is a circlejerk saying that "I hate my parents for doing that" and at worst it's a flamewar waiting to happen.

Because the thread is about discussing the actual impact of circumcision and why guardians should be able to make the choice for an infant to remove a part of their body they won't realize the effects of. And it is a very large thing.

Because Bay12 is a nice(ish) place. We can have discussions with evidence that aren't hugboxes or flamewars. If you want to pursue that rail, leave. If you would like to support your opinion, stay.

Because it's not only about you. You are old enough to say you do not want surgery done on your body. You can come to your own conclusions and people will respect your wishes regarding your own body. Meanwhile, boys the world over are put to surgery, and we have nothing but two flimsy scientific papers to say that the choice even matters.

More people get annoyed by flies buzzing around them every year than get circumcised, therefore flies are a more important issue than circumcision.

I want to end the existence of flies with a vengeance. Although it does beg the question of what most spiders will then have to eat. Probably fish, spiders love fish.

More people get annoyed by flies buzzing around them every year than get circumcised, therefore flies are a more important issue than circumcision.

Thats a really poor counter example. They're similar medical practices, but one gets decried as a a moral imperative to stop it, where as the other, no one gives to shits about.  The fact that one happens more then the other, is an important aspect.

As someone who medically needed to be circumcised, I feel the need to correct you here. Sometimes it is necessary due to several common... malfunctions of development. Get over it.
