Actually, it is pretty simple to do simple solo. In my first (and only) simple game we only had one other active player, who did six out of seven altars. Mistress (hard) had only five active people, and only four contributed to a win. Technically, it could have been two (me and one other guy), but a third guy asked me to leave some altars for him and a fourth guy hijacked one of the two altars I left for the third guy. :D

Yeah, from Medium up you'll find more active people :)

The trick is to start with tier 2 items, and develop to tier 3 items ASAP, even if that means destroying your original income. You should try to make at least 4 items in each "assembly"!

okay... I've got 56 of the 78 towers covered...

did a little peaking at the last two towers and I'm screwed T.T. There's one I can do which is going to need a good amount of brain-juice to figure out but im confident I can do it.

the other... is a recipe that needs timber, and there isn't a single tree in reach! I'd need to place 2 extra expensive as hell fire towers (on top of the two I'll need to get to the towers in the first place) to even have a chance of getting some wood over there. the clock is ticking and my income is... decent I guess. (+3370) (3 glass factories, and 1 window factory) (and then what I get from supplying those 5 towers)

I hope one of the other players that have above 200 income is going to sweep in and deal with that timber tower :D but I don't think that's going to happen. this game is pretty nerve-wrecking like that. I'm really enjoying myself and am looking forward to playing a map that has other active players.

about that? the higher difficulties warn you that you need the big factories to win. is this like... really important or something I could ignore?

edit:(changed some numbers)

Well, I jumped in straight for the medium after the first simple game. Most of the work was done by other people, but it's still entirely possible to simply do only the altars that don't need 'big' items. A much bigger problem would be the slow-ass startup. I have no idea how I could survive without big factories, since with them I'm easily putting out 1000 several hours after starting the game.

Well, you get the big factories after the second win. They're not ultra necessary, as most people playing medium have them and you can concentrate on mini-bosses or helping them with resources. To be honest, it's not THAT exciting to play with other active people. It's nice, but not an ginormous game-changer.

Anyways, I suppose those glass factories are all being used as input to the windows factory? If so - awesome! Also, consider spyglass, which just requires a polished gem, i.e. water+rock, which are both 4-stacked. All you need is 3 stacks containing water/rock, and you've got yourself 4 gems! It's relatively painless.

So, I made an account. I go to change my name, you get one name change free... Oh wait no pay us money and you get to change your name from the randomly generated one.

Goddamnit. That's colored my interaction with this game with the brown hues of "we want your money".

I haven't managed to change my name as well. I just figured I messed up my account creation.
I do like my random name enough to not really be too irked. (FreeRain) :D

7 of 8 towers covered btw.

Not bad! What's the output of those factories?

Either way, the approach is awesome! In general, I try my best (usually takes quite some time too!) to find a way where I can get EXACTLY the right resources for EVERY factory. The aim is always to produce tier 3 resources. You seem like you're getting some tier 2, which is good, but the jump to tier 3 really makes it worthwhile.

That said, you don't have any water, which sucks :\

I think you're doing a really great job with the limited amount of resources you have gotten. Not a single source of water. that's got to be rough.
also don't be too afraid of tearing down what you build when you expand more. more resources mean more opportunities. and sometimes old projects need to make way for the new.
