If they never went to a medic, then where do you get your estimate from?
My wife's medic, she was injured too and helped about 40-50 other sufferers. None of them were officially registered as injured.
And that was only one of hundreds of buildings with glass windows. ;-)

The difference with a steeper angle would be an airburst closer to ground.
Or simply impact.
The asteroid didn't have the size nor structural integrity nor speed to survive the reentry.

Impact simulator

Either that calculator underestimates the energy or NASA underestimates the size of the rock. I have to jack up the numbers quite a lot to get results comparable to the observed.

The airburst that happened is a rather rare event. During a normal reentry the damage wouldn't have been so big.

Oh, fck. "Reentry", "reenter".

I just crashed a moon-sized iron asteroid, and got this under Global Damages:
Quote
100 percent of the Earth is melted

The final crater diameter was 31900 miles, which I think is bigger than the Earth actually is.

I don't think that you can use it to a certain extent. There are substantially different effects once you jack it up a certain level.

There was another one in San Francisco (not any damage though).  Maybe the thread should be renamed "Earth under seige by meteorites".

If they aren't landing it's meteors.

Also, I'm having way too much fun blowing eeything up with the impact calculator. I learned that liing in NYC while North Carolina is wiped out by a ice-version of chixuculub would be fairly okay, except for the heat and airblast, which will light everything on fire and collapse everything about 38 minutes after, respectively.

Yeah, I think I'm having too much fun with it too. Dropped an iron Asia, turning the Earth into a new asteroid belt. While melting 100% of it.

Hit Earth at a one degree angle with a meter diameter neutron star. Fun Fun Fun.

I knew it was a mistake to link that simulator. It's not the first time.

As usual, I break what I play with.

Diameter: 1 m.

Density: 80000000kg/m^3.

Spoiler:  Atmospheric Entry (click to show/hide)

Interestingly a report of the meteor we had now was pretty accurate.

So, a breif look over of the Tunguska event places it around 1908, last time the Chicago Cubs won the world series. If you are superstitous, now's the time to get into gambling.
