So I drank something and it was painful
« on: February 13, 2013, 08:03:28 am »

So, sometimes when I wake up and immediately go and drink something... it goes down extremely painfully... then things are fine other then linguring pain.

I know there is nothing wrong with me but I'd like to know what that is.

I'm not sure, but it happens to me as well, usually when it's fairly hot and I haven't drunk anything in a while.

It's normal to have a sore throat if you didn't drink a lot before sleeping before, or because of the cold during the winter months.

Not what I am refering to.

I mean the liquid gets stuck in the throat and it feels like it is forcing itself down painfully!

In fact if I keep drinking after that it can even cause me to fall unconscious.

Of course, but drinking with a sore throat hurts like a bitch. :P If it's literally unbearable then there is probably something wrong, though.

After the liquid goes through... it is fine... and it hurts ALL the way down... Not just in the upper throat.

As well my throat is fine until you apply liquids.

It is not necessary to use muscles in your throat to drink.

Try this:

 * Put cup to lips
 * Pause
 * Inhale slowly and deeply
 * Exhale fully
 * Inhale only halfway
 * Completely relax all muscles from your chest to your throat
 * Pour liquid into mouth and tilt head back so it enters your throat. Do not force liquid down.
 * Instead of using muscles in chest and throat area, expand your stomach outward, creating suction and causing the liquid to be sucked into your stomach.

That isn't what happened either. My throat was perfectly fine.

It was my esophagus that was in pain. My guess is it is because of suction.

Now... AFTER I drink something and the pain stops... my throat is perfectly fine. It is open and I can drink as much as I want with no issue.

We are talking about water right?

It happened with Water and Pop and milk. It happens from time to time

It is mildly unpleasant if it is just a little liquid, and wrenchingly painful to the point of blacking out if I guzzle it.

Uh, "wrenchingly painful" is a sign that something is wrong. Should definitely see a doctor about that.

Could be cancer, which doesn't have a lot of symptoms other than pain, is much easier to cure if diagnosed early. Not saying that it is cancer or anything serious, but if it is, you'd be glad to have it checked. Could be a cyst too.

It really doesn't sound like something that serious.

Especially since a "Cyst' doesn't explain it.

you are drinking too quickly and stretching the muscles in your throat, seriously just don't guzzle water early in the morning.  It used to happen to me when i would work outside all day long and get exceptionally thirsty, you try and drink too fast with causes the water to be forced down so fast you actually stretch your throat.
