Mouse Drift
« on: February 11, 2013, 10:46:27 pm »

My mouse pointer seems to have an issue with drifting around. Ever since I got this mousepad.

I really don't want to go back to using the cardboard side of a notebook.

I did some of the things the interwebs has suggested like downloading some antivirus and running checks, and both free versions of kaspersky and malwarebytes report no problems.

At one point it was drifting down to where I could move my mouse up to counter it, so I'm still pretty worried, and this is after the checks. Usually it only happens when I'm using visual studio express or I'm trying to open folders.

So forums, halp?

Doesn't seem to.

So should I coat my mousepad in pancake syrup then?  :P

lol i dunno :P
i assume your mousepad is too glossy which is throwing it off, try finding a felt one or cloth.

tldr version: With modern mice, you don't need a mousepad at all, as they are designed to track on any surface. I've not used one for quite some time now, and unless your table is really crap, you don't actually need one.

In regards to mouse drift, I also recommend checking inside the bottom of the mouse where the tracking stuff is. If a hair or fiber gets in there, it can throw your mouse all over the place, which can be fixed just by blowing it out.

is the cable twisted? or hanging off the table? is your arm hanging off the table?

unless your table is glass you don't need a mousepad, yes even with a ball mouse.
still if the table is not smooth and clean having one helps even if it is just a magazine.
(im using copy of Nottingham drink for a mousepad)

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Its a dorm desk and they didn't provide any holes in the back of the thing so you gotta wrap the cord up around the front, and my arm hangs off the end. So I suppose that's that then. I'm also weird and like to have the pointer speed relatively high.

I did a quick fix type thing.

I DL'd the producers driver for the mouse, and I lowered the DPI by like 200. Since the mouse settings in the OS were either mouse drift or too slow, this allowed a more precise setting. Plus I can lower the DPI and raise the OS pointer speed which is a neat way to prevent mouse drift.

I just flipped the mouse pad over to its rubber side. So there's no possible way the mouse could be moving, and it was still drifting all over the place.

So I think its the sensor on the mouse that's causing it.
