I really hope we dont get a firebrand, but sooner or later, it will be a smart move. A black pope could make sense (if either driving some mad/exploited to hell and back), as I'm curious as to why they retain traction, given the otherwise all too fresh memories of colonialism.

If we're going to have a black pope, it should be Samuel L Jackson.

A black pope is virtually inevitable, as the majority of Catholics in the world has shifted from Europe and North America to Africa and South America. At this rate the Vatican might have to move, since Europe is losing Catholics faster than any other continent.

Cathocolism is actually the force keeping the continents down, hence Europe will be the first continent to rise into the skies and become a floating landmass.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

That's right! We at the catholic church believe all are equal in the eyes of god, thus give anybody the chance to become pope! Unless your a woman, then screw you.

Rather surprisingly I looked in the newspaper to learn that Timothy M. Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, is a candidate for the papacy. That's uh, surprising.

Woah now, slow down sunny. A black Pope is one thing, nobody said anything about an American Pope. Step too far.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm being satirical about the whole "no American Pope" thing, if you're not getting that.

I retract my apprehension against an American Pope, because the right man for the job has stepped forward: Stephen Colbert.

YES. Say, can someone be both Pope and U.S. President at the same time, or would that be a conflict of interest?
